iaria‘Minako Transforms Right in Front of Rei’s Eyes’
Hottie Of the Week: Rei. She was looking good all episode but I thought she looked especially nice as Mars during the fight in the gym.
Cutest Moment: Minako and Rei reacting to the dog’s stomach grumbling, laughing together, was cute.
Saddest Moment: Usagi, dealing with the fact that she is in love with Mamoru (and he has a nice girlfriend).
WTF of the Week: Two things,
1) Usagi, Makoto and possibly Ami getting so distracted by Usagi’s angst over her feelings for Mamoru that they apparently forgot that Rei was fighting a youma by herself! OMG! What the fuck? Get it together, girls! Makoto and Ami, especially.
2) At first I was all yay for Minako transforming in front of Rei, regardless of secrecy, because she was determined to help Rei but upon giving it a second more thought I realized – she could have just taken a dozen steps backwards and transformed out of sight. Oy. Or she could have transformed back when she watched Mars chase the youma away.
Coolest Moment: I really like Mars’s ‘Youma Taisan’ attack and Venus’s silent Crescent Beam. I like seeing the attacks without the full background special effects that often accompany them but rather as people actually there would see them. Venus didn’t say anything when she did her attack, though she did do the motions, and I wonder if the senshi don’t actually have to do all the phrases/motions when doing their attacks but that it makes them easier?
Best Senshi Moment: Makoto – just for being there for Usagi all day. She followed Usagi from the Crown to the store to the park and back to the crown and later when Usagi ran off Makoto again followed her. (I’ll note though that there was no real stand out for this category.)
Best Senshi Interaction: Rei/Minako taking care of the dog specifically the moment where Rei realises who Minako is and Minako’s smile at the fact that Rei didn’t know who she was.
‘At Last, All Five Sailor Senshi Are Together’
Hottie Of the Week: Usagi and Makoto are tied. I though Makoto looked fabulous during the scene at the Crown where Ami realizes Usagi loves Mamoru, and Usagi was beautiful while lying in bed, sad over Mamoru.
Saddest Moment: Usagi revealing that subconsciously when she picked out the yarn for the muffler she chose the colour to go with Mamoru not Tuxedo Kamen.
WTF of the Week: The whole fight between Nephrite/Jadeite/youma and all the senshi should have been awesome but instead I found myself shaking my head at it. Nephrite sending the youma after ‘the princess’ instead of going himself was just stupid considering she was his goal. The fact that Moon, Mercury and Jupiter held off both Shitennou when only moments before the four of them got their asses handed to them also doesn’t make sense. Considering how Venus wants to protect Moon it also doesn’t make much sense for her to have run off.
Coolest Moment: All five of the senshi posed together for the very first time (in 18 episodes!) was a wonderful moment that was a long time coming.
Best Senshi Moment: Usagi moving past her grief over Mamoru having a girlfriend and coming to the sincere conclusion that more love is a good thing, even if it’s not him loving her, and then healing both of them (and apparently everyone else affected). The healing was especially interesting since Usagi didn’t use her moon wand or anything else.
Best Senshi Interaction: Rei/Minako are just love. All their interactions this episode were great. I loved their winks at each other just before their joint attack.
+ I’m continuing to love being able to see the Senshi’s attacks without the background effects and I’m continuing to hate how the Senshi can pretty much use any of the attacks in their repertoire despite the fact that they do have grades of power.
+ I found Minako trying to show up Rei to be an interesting side to her and something that we haven’t seen yet. She can be childish too. I loved that Rei called her out on it.
