Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Act 22 Review
Oct. 18th, 2009 03:05 pm‘Ami Becomes an Enemy’
Hottie Of the Week: Ami. Being evil really agrees with her! She looked absolutely gorgeous on the carousel.
Funniest Moment: Evil Ami being in the classroom the next morning having brainwashed everyone because she didn’t want to miss school. Hee. That is so Ami. And of course there’d be no fighting there either.
Saddest Moment: Usagi alone on the roof at lunch was pretty sad. I disagree with Usagi that the loneliness that she was feeling on the roof was how Ami felt. Usagi is gregarious and loves to be around other people. She doesn’t do well alone unlike Ami who is used to being alone and seems to like it well enough. Especially in this case where Ami does have the option of sitting with Usagi and Naru at lunch but chooses not to. Then there’s the subject of Makoto, who the PTB seemed to have forgotten goes to school with Usagi and Ami – where was she during all of this? I always assumed that Ami and Makoto ate lunch together since last time we saw Makoto at school was eating lunch on the roof, and unlike Ami we have no indication that Makoto has a friendly relationship with anyone else at school. It would make sense for them to eat lunch together.
WTF of the Week: Tie: 1) Once at the amusement park the girls decide to separate – and Jupiter and Mars head off together while Moon heads off alone. Wait, what? How does that make any sense?! Plus does Mars not remember what Venus told her – to stay by Moon’s side? There were many ways to make it work so that Jupiter and Mars ended up separated from Moon and this way was stupid. 2) When Dark Mercury attacked Moon with her sword Moon flinched down instead of doing anything useful like moving and it drives me crazy. Why didn’t she move?! They let her be competent one act but as soon as they need her to be saved half the time they make her look like an idiot. I did love that it was Venus who saved her, and with her chain, which was pretty neat. Venus’s words to Moon – “Pull yourself together.” were pretty much what I was thinking. Hopefully she takes it to heart. 3) Makoto’s non-existence during school scenes. I only really noticed it a couple acts ago but her absence was so obvious in this episode. Why didn’t Usagi tell her at school that Ami was there? Didn’t they think that it’s something she should know? Plus where was Makoto during lunch?
Coolest Moment: There were actually a couple. 1) Usagi’s light-show that killed the youma and almost healed Ami was really neat. 2) I adored Dark Mercury so casually using her water abilities to create her ice sword. And I love the fact that it shoots blasts of energy. 3) The return of Zoisite! Yay! I loved that upon returning, and not even completely yet, his first action is to track down Mamoru (and play his piano).
Best Senshi Moment: Dark Mercury: (looking at Beryl) Kunzite. I may be reborn but I have no plan to be anyone’s underling. Remember that! That was pretty awesome. I loved how her gaze stayed on Beryl but the warning was very much directed towards Kunzite as well. Only I don’t think he really heard it going by his smirk.
Best Senshi Interaction: Moon/Dark Mercury(/Venus) at the end of the episode.
+ I find it interesting how Dark Mercury went after Usagi. She was very specifically targeting her. She chose to turn all their classmates against Usagi and made them all like her. She appeared to Usagi at the amusement park. Even after Venus turned up she ignored their downed princess to continue to go after Moon. I wonder if this is because of everyone Usagi is the one she loves most? Or the one she felt most abandoned by?
+ “Zoisite has not yet awakened. I felt lonely with a member missing from the Shitennou.” – Kunzite. I like snarky Kunzite. But this really made it seem as if he didn’t know that Zoisite had been awake already.
+ I think it would have been a wonderful way to take the scene if after Usagi’s depressed line wondering if this is how it was for Ami, Makoto would arrive on the roof. She’d ask Usagi what she was doing there, Usagi would explain about Ami and Makoto would then reveal that she and Ami ate lunch on the roof together every day. Then we could maybe get a heart-warming bonding moment between them with Makoto assuring Usagi that they’ll get Ami back and Usagi smiling at her (all, nod ‘yes’) and then they’d eat lunch.
