4x01 'The Past is Present'
I enjoyed it. The end of last season wasn't great for me but this is a really nice start to the new season.
+ "When it comes to what we do, the only thing that matters to me is our partnership. So, you go, I go." Joan/Sherlock were so wonderful. This is exactly why I enjoy this show. I love how much they love each other, the ways they are always trying to care for each other, and how well they know each other (Joan understanding what Sherlock was thinking at the jail was great).
+ Joan being protective of Sherlock is the best. I loved her giving Sherlock's dad an ultimatum via his lackey. I super loved her threatening said lackey when he was being disparaging towards Sherlock. "What's the hardest you've ever been hit? ... I'd hate to come back." Best.
+ Sherlock trying to protect Joan from the consequences of what he did was lovely too. I love that his main thought was to make it possible for Joan to continue their work because he knows how much she loves it.
+ I really like that the show didn't make a big deal out of Sherlock's relapse. I love every way that the show dealt with it - from the reactions to various characters (aw Gregson and Marcus), how Sherlock dealt with it (low key, taking responsibility), the issues it caused with the NYPD (there should be consequences).
+ Sherlock is still writing to Moriarty! Yay! That makes me happy.
+ Sherlock and Morland Holmes meeting on the roof was great. I already enjoy their relationship.
4x02 'Evidence of Things Not Seen'
+ I'm loving Morland. His interactions with Sherlock and Joan are great to watch. I really liked Joan's confrontation with him at the end. Also her line about Sherlock thinking he was a bad father. I loved her parting line: "I want to make one thing clear. I'm not going to let you hurt him." ♥
+ I love that Sherlock decided he wanted to take his father up on his offer because it would make him happy and him admitting that to Joan. That's a really big step for him to take.
+ I like that Morland is the reason that Sherlock didn't go to jail for beating Oscar. I'd wondered about it.
+ Joan's work outfit at the start of the episode was gorgeous. I also loved her jacket in her final scene.
4x03 'Tag, You're It'
+ "But I can't rule out you having foreseen it via the black arts." -Sherlock. LOL. I love how petulant and snarky Sherlock is with his dad.
+ John Noble was such great casting. He is so good at elevating his characters, in giving them amazing depth and also in getting me invested in them. A+ casting show. I really loved that last Sherlock/Morland scene. JN made me believe that Morland sincerely regrets his lack of relationship with Sherlock, that it pains him and he wants to fix things between them. Now whether that's true or the extent to which it's true I'm cautious. I'm hoping this actually does go somewhere good, for Sherlock's sake.
+ Sherlock making Clyde food, experimenting for the best combinations and then vacuum-sealing a bunch of it was great.
+ That little moment between Joan and Marcus over Say Anything was really cute.
4x04 'All My Exes Live in Essex': I really liked how polyamory was portrayed here. The opening and closing Joan/Sherlock scenes were lovely. I loved Sherlock taking care of her at the end. It was nice to see Joan with one of her friends. I loved that Joan figured out the truth with her medical knowledge. Not sure about the Detective Cortes storyline but I'm guessing despite Joan's attempt to defuse the situation (with boxing?) she's going to cause problems in the future.
4x05 'The Games Underfoot': It was great to see Alfredo again and his scenes with Sherlock were lovely. I loved Sherlock's "His predecessor has proved difficult to replace." and Alfredo's reaction. Aww. I also liked Sherlock calling Alfredo out on not being selfish and trying to be a good friend to him. Sherlock 'reclaiming' the stolen bikes including one for Marcus amused me. I was also amused by Joan letting Sherlock spend hours struggling through the video game before easily finishing it off herself.
