Haven 5x22 & 5x23 Thoughts

iaria5x24 'A Matter of Time'
Meh.
+ I don’t buy William doing that at all. He has zero motivation for helping Nathan other than the fact that the plot needed it to happen. It was very dumb. Maybe if it had been Audrey in there I could have bought her convincing him, idk. I am sad that we didn't get Audrey dealing with William instead. That would have worked so much better.
+ Again with blaming Duke! Hayley's death is not his fault. Yes, he brought her to Haven but she chose to leave using her powers, and chose to return using them. He warned her in the beginning about them. Those were her choices.
+ Audrey pulling Nathan away from Duke at the end instead of comforting Duke made me so angry. In the last episode I said it wasn’t true that Audrey/Nathan only cared about Duke as far as they needed him but I can sure as hell understand why he thinks so. Damn I hate what this show has done with Audrey/Duke.
+ "I'm Audrey." Still not sold. Okay, kidding, but Audrey from this season really hasn't felt like Audrey.
+ "It’s us. The three of us. We’re back and we will figure it out somehow." - Audrey. On the one hand, I love this. This is why I watched this show. This is exactly what I've been wanting for the past two seasons and kind of never thought we'd really get back. But on the other hand, bite me show. After all the crap they done to separate Duke from Audrey and even Nathan to a degree and stomp on the OT3, plus the last couple episode it falls a little flat. Plus I'm doubting that they really are going to solve this as a team.
5x23 'Blind Spot'
I liked this episode! I'm a little surprised because I've been alternately bored and aggravated by this season and have really only been watching because it's the last season. It's so nice to enjoy the show again.
+ I thought Audrey was great! It was like having real Audrey back. I loved her interactions with Duke. Audrey with Laverne was wonderful. Her figuring out first that the Trouble wasn't trying to hurt them, her talking Laverne through her Trouble and helping her to learn to use it, and just how caring and empathetic she was towards Laverne all episode. I loved that Audrey stopped Agent Howard to make sure that the new barn wouldn't hurt Laverne.
Part of it is definitely that the episode felt a lot less overloaded with Audrey/Nathan. Audrey takes the lead with Laverne, she's the one who convinces Howard, she's the one who talks with possessed!Duke. At one point she even tells Nathan "Stop. Listen." I think one of my biggest issues has been that Audrey has felt like she's become all about Nathan. She follows his lead and she worries (almost) only about him and it bugs. This episode dropped much of that focus and it was a breathe of fresh air.
+ The Duke/Nathan scene was so lovely! Duke gave Nathan his first major collar and saved his job! Their adorable smiles at each other! Nathan teasing Duke about missing school and reassuring him that they make their own fate. It was really nice.
+ I loved how visually upset Audrey was about the piles of blood and the possibility Duke was dead.
+ I love Laverne the police station. Think how useful that could be. I also love how protective she was of Audrey and everyone else.
+ The Vince/Gloria scene was nice.
+ The background Duke/Alex bickering amused me.
+ It was nice to see Howard again. I loved that he is not forgiving Nathan for shooting him. I did find him being convinced a little too easy.
+ So how long has Duke been working for Croatoan? When the hell did that happen? Why? How? This feels really random. How do we go from "Yeah I can't argue with that." ending the last episode to this? Even if he has embraced being a Crocker, or been taken over by power/bloodlust, why would he choose to work for the Croatoan? That's not very Duke-like.
+ Wait, so the solution to ending the Troubles for good is to simply ask Howard to make a new barn to do that? ... What exactly was it that Charlotte had to figure out then? Howard even answers to her!
