The Husbands Of River Song

I really enjoyed it. It was fun and kept me amused all the way until it hit me in the feelings. I was really happy to see River again and I loved River/Twelve.

• Twelve and River were completely delightful together. They had so much chemistry and were really fun. I love them so much. My biggest regret is that the show has tied River's timeline up so well that there's no chance for further Twelve/River adventures (excepting those on Derillium) which is really freaking sad! I want a whole season of them having adventures.

+ I find it really sad that River thought this entire time that the Doctor didn't lover her back. I am glad she learned the truth before her death. And wow did he: "River, not one person on this ship, not one living thing is worth you." ♥ And of course the biggest sign of how much he loves her - his willingness to spend the next 24 years of Derillium's night living a life with River on Derillium (though undoubtedly having adventures, getting in trouble and saving the day).

+ I loved this line: "When you love the Doctor it’s like loving the stars themselves. You don’t expect a sunset to admire you back."

+ That moment of realisation was beautiful. I adored the Doctor's "Hello sweetie." How softly he said it, the expression on her face, her "oh shut up" in response, the way the instantly fall into their usual groove - all perfect.

+ Loved the return of the flirtiness. The way the Doctor asked what she thought about his new body, all excited/anxious, and her "I don't know I have only seen the face."

• I really like the symmetry of the Doctor's last meeting with River beginning with her not knowing who he is for much of it and River's last meeting with the Doctor having him not know who she is.

• I loved the Doctor being gleeful at seeing River and trying to fall back into their usual repartee and then being all let down when she wasn't going for it. I loved how happy he was this episode. He was having so much too.

• At first it bothered me that the Doctor didn't leave after the crash. After all this is the Doctor and there didn't seem to be any reason not to put it off a little more. There was certainly no need to actively instigate this final night. But thinking about it more this episode is actually perfectly placed. The Doctor had his memory wiped of Clara but he remembers enough including that he went too far in order to save her. So it makes perfect sense that at this moment in time he's actually in the perfect head space where he wouldn't be willing, for anyone or any reason, to try and push the rules.

• It was interesting to watch River when she completely separate from the Doctor (or so she thinks.) This is what I've been wanting to see more of with her. It fleshes out her life a lot more. I actually really like how morally grey she is and it fits well with her background.

+ "An archeologist is just a thief, with patience. I've never had much of that."

+ "I'll kill the lights, you kill the patient." - River. LOLOL.

• The fact that River steals the TARDIS all the time, and presumably from all the Doctor's, kind of delights me. Of course she would, and the TARDIS allowing it makes sense to me too considering their special bond. River and the TARDIS out having adventures of their own. I love it. I can already hear the Doctor's complaints to the TARDIS the next time they're by themselves.

• The TARDIS giving the Doctor holographic antlers is the best.

• Some of the thing's that amused me most:

+ "Carol singers will be criticized." LOL. Yeah, that's pretty much the Twelfth Doctor in a nutshell. I'm sad we didn't get to see that,

+ "Because I've got cross arms." Hee. I love when the Doctor desribes

+ The Doctor's reaction when he realised that he was actually being called upon to be a surgeon - his "okay, calm down, keep it together" ostensibly to Nardole as he inward freaked out and Nardole's whines - lol.

+ River refers to the Doctor as 'damsel', lol. His expression when he heard that, lol. I love everything about it.

+ I love how excited the Doctor was about being a Companion for once. His entire speech about the TARDIS being bigger on the inside, finally doing it right!, was hilarious.

+ These exchanges (a couple picked out of dozens):

"You planned to murder me."
"Don't change the subject." - River.

“Does sarcasm help?” - River
“Wouldn’t it be a killer universe if it did?” - Doctor

+ The Doctor and River ignoring the bad guys during their conversation much to the bad guys confusion and consteration.

• One issue I did have is with River knowing that this will be her last trip with the Doctor, including hearing rumours about their last meeting being at the Towers, when Library!River very clearly had no idea that it was going to be her last adventure.

• This was definitely set up as an episode that could work as River's final one but then previous episodes were like that as well. I really hope not if only because we never got to see her interacting with Missy and that seems like such a wasted opportunity. [As Mickey would agree - it's always fun when the Mrs and the Ex meet and I want to see it!]

• When River mentioned that Twelve reminded her of her second wife my first thought was: I wonder when she ran into Clara (and Ashildr) and what sort of adventure did they get up to.
