Meh, not something I’d rewatch.

+ The focus on a boring family and the rampant destruction definitely worked against it. Cade was pretty meh as a character. The conflict over the boyfriend was boring. Also I spent a lot of time wondering where Sam was while all of this was going on.

+ I was very annoyed with how Tessa was portrayed for a lot of the film. Lots of helplessness and screaming where you know if she was Cade’s son we would have had someone a lot more capable. The scenes that particularly stuck out were on Lockdown’s ship. Tessa ran and hid (fine, smart), got molested by an alien tongue (wtf?) and then found by her dad and Shane. Cade found weapons and fought back before rescuing her. Why did she need to be rescued? Why couldn’t she have been the one to find the weapons? Why couldn’t they have found each other? Then when they were crossing the anchor lines she is, of course, the one who balks (I feel her!), whines/freaks (so there!), and then starts going back (what?!) Why was that sequence needed? It wasn’t. I did like her choosing to go back at the end and helping Optimus.

+ Weirdly my favourite part ended up being Joshua once the action moved to China and he had a change of heart. He’s an arrogant ass and for the first half I thought I might actually dislike a Stanley Tucci character but, no, I ended up liking him. He's pretty terrible and he did terrible things but he was fun and maybe a little bit of a good guy at his core. His relationship with Su Yueming was kind of delightful too. My favourite sequence of the movie was their escape from the factory/elevator scene and I ended up shipping them. Why no kiss at the end? That was totally set up as a kiss! I'd be so much more interested in a movie following them.

+ The Autobots were fine but I wish we'd had more scenes of them interacting with each other. I liked Optimus a lot. Bumblebee felt like he had less of a presence here which was weird because he was in it a lot. I liked Hound a lot. He amused me. Drift was fine. I liked how anti-helping Crosshairs was. Poor Ratchet D:

+ I wasn't a fan of Optimus leaving Earth with the Seed but leaving the rest of the Autobots behind with the order to protect the Yeagers. Uh. As far as they know some humans are still hunting them? Why wouldn't they all leave? Also one talk with and a little help from a couple humans and Optimus is willing to forgive the fact that they were betrayed, hunted and murdered?

+ The dinobots were cool but what were they even doing in this movie? It made no sense! How lucky they happened to be right there to find. Why did Optimus need to fight them? Also I'm pretty sure that China isn't going to be happy to have dinosaur robots wandering around their country.
