Nov. 9th, 2010 07:06 pmI read a casting spoiler for Bones and they’re adding a male reoccurring ‘Big Bad’ to the cast. He’s going to be played by Arnold Vosloo which is good. I really liked him in The Mummy. He’s going to be an elite sniper named Jacob Ripkin – and the bad – ‘who is accused of assassinating a pivotal reoccurring character’. That pretty much takes my mind in one direction only – Hannah. I never even considered that any of our reoccurring characters could be the one to die. Obviously it’s going to be Hannah. And if that does happen I am going to be so disappointed. Because fridging a female character to cause Booth angst and finally get Booth/Brennan together is so much better a storyline then actually writing the two acting like mature adults. Ugh. The fact that Jacob is compared to the Gravedigger, worse even, and is the Evil Booth as the Gravedigger was the Evil Brennen, confirms for me that Hannah is not long for the world. The more I think about this the more it really, really annoys me. I don’t love Hannah like I’ve fallen for other characters (Bela, Amber) but I do like her and more importantly killing her off is so cliché and unnecessary. Of course I could be wrong but I don’t think I am. Also – the use of the word ‘assassinate’ is weird. To ‘assassinate’ someone that person has to be a prominent public figure and it has a political implication to it. I don’t think any of our characters could be considered ‘prominent’ and of them it’s Brennan who I think would be closest to meeting the definition.
I watched two ‘unreleased’ (or deleted?) scenes from season five of Doctor Who. Both of them were awesome.
The first was set between 2x01 and 2x02 and involved Amy asking questions about the TARDIS and the Doctor being an alien while ragging on the Doctor’s bowtie. I loved Amy asking about why it looks like a police box. We’ve gotten a lot of ‘bigger on the inside’ but not really any of the other explanations. I also loved the Doctor’s explanation for it and the way Amy kept blurting out questions like she couldn’t help herself. It was adorable and amusing and it reminded me how much I love these two. Plus it made Amy really endearing. I loved her.
The second was set between 2x05 and 2x06 and involved the Doctor explaining why he takes companions and Amy asking about his previous ones. It was wonderful. I loved this one the best and I wish so much that it had actually been in the episode. The Doctor/Amy interactions were excellent and hilarious.
- I loved the Doctor’s expressions throughout. He keeps getting these inappropriate smiles that amused me. Also: “Gandalf. Space Gandalf” lol. Oh, and his ‘involuntary snort’ when Amy brings up Rory. Oh, and I loved his ‘oh god, I mean no’ when Amy brought up seeing pictures of his previous Companions. Heh.
- The reason the Doctor gave for why he takes on Companions is perfect and should have been on the show.
- I love that it appears that things might go angsty with Amy getting upset about why the Doctor brought her along as a Companion – and then it just doesn’t go there.
- I love mentions of former Companions so of course that made me happy. Not only did we have the Doctor talking about them with Amy but then we got to see some of them. I noticed at least two different ones of Rose as well as Donna, Martha, Sarah Jane, Romana, Leela and others (though they appeared to be on a repeating loop). I loved that the TARDIS was messing with/teasing the Doctor. I love when the TARDIS is shown to have personality/be sentient.
- I loved the Doctor’s “Thanks dear.” to the TARDIS because I also love when the Doctor treats the TARDIS as sentient but also as someone he cares for greatly and is proud of.
- The Doctor’s “Not mates, forget mates” gave me a warm glow because it made me think of Donna. I’m choosing to think that’s what the Doctor was thinking of when he said that.
- I loved Amy tricking the Doctor into showing her his previous companions and her calling him on taking young attractive woman as Companions.
Nikita 1x08 was one of the best episodes yet. I really enjoyed it. Nikita was badass throughout. I liked the introduction of Ari and Division's Russian equivalent Gogol. Ari's interactions with Nikita were really interesting and I think they have good chemistry. I hope we get to see him again. I liked the twist that Anna was a spy.
I was reading some TVD thoughts on the latest episode in various new places and kept coming across opinions that made me go WTF. I usually stick to a couple places and I'm thinking now I should just keep doing that. Some of the stuff I came across included:
- someone being pleased when Rose 'used a very effective way to get Elena to shut up' [WTF?!]
- bitching about how Stefan is so selfish and a douche and how they wanted to punch him in the face [Yes, what a selfish douche Stefan is for wanting his brother to stop killing innocent people and pushing for it. Yes, what a selfish douche Stefan is for wanting Damon to start feeling positive emotions again – like affection and empathy and friendliness and love – and pushing for that. Stefan is certainly selfish and full of flaws but this is not one of them.]
- blaming Stefan for Damon's actions [... because it's Stefan's selfishness that is the cause of all Damon's bad decisions what?]
- how Damon is so selfless. And just a whole lot of 'Damon is the best/better than everyone' squeeing with bashing of other characters especially Stefan and, strangely, Elena. [I love Damon but I hate so much the whole ‘perfect Damon’ crap. Like how he suffers because Elena keeps breaking his heart even though he’s so selfless and caring and loves her. Gag.]
- someone saying the only 'redeeming' thing about Elena in that final Elena/Damon scene was Elena 'finally shutting her mouth and letting Damon express his feelings without her saying 'no Damon' all the time'. [Ew. So Elena need to be redeemed for... not loving Damon back and thinking he's the best most perfect thing ever? For not wanting to be with him or wanting to listen to his feelings about her after she's repeatedly stated she doesn't feel the same way? WTF? Why are Damon's feelings more important than Elena's?]
Bones 6x05 ‘The Bones That Weren’t’
This was a very enjoyable episode.
• The opening scene between Booth, Brennan and Sweets was really amusing which is always a good way to start an episode. I like when they gang up on Booth.
• There were a lot of little moments I liked:
- everyone’s reactions to Angela’s laser-cutting of a skeleton replica
- the scene where Brennan uses Hodgins as a corpse
- that Brennan went to the hospital and looked at Hannah’s scans and inadvertently saved her life
- Hannah and Booth’s relationship
- the way Hannah calls Brennan ‘Temperance’ and Booth ‘Seeley’
• I loved Brennan’s casual calling out of Booth referring to the skeleton as male (“How do you know its male?”) and his stuttering response. It’s a weakness of the English language but still something I hate – the lack of gender neutral terms and thus the use of male (he/him) to be neutral. Male is not neutral. It may have made more sense 200 years ago but it doesn’t work anymore and yet people don’t appear to ever think about it. Seeing someone pointing out the fallacy of it made me happy.
• “Wow. Aren’t we a pair?”
“We are. We are quite a pair.”
My favourite part of the episode were the Brennan/Hannah interactions. I loved the little exchange of glances between Brennan and Hannah after Hannah said that Brennan had basically saved her life. I loved the final scene between Brennan and Hannah as well. I love that Hannah doesn’t find Brennan weird or off-putting, that she can in fact talk at the same level as Brennan. They feel very much like equals. Actually, my favourite part is how there is no jealousy between the two women. I am so happy that the show is going there with them. They both love Booth and each has a part of him the other doesn’t (Brennan the history/work, Hannah the relationship/personal) but they don’t use it as a reason to hate or resent the other. They love him and know that he loves both of them and so they both do their best to accept the other. I really like that they seem to be becoming friends. More of this please! I would love to see them working together for some reason.
