Bitter Harvest

I loved this episode. Octavia and Clarke were the standout characters and the twist at the end was one of my favourite twists this show has ever done.

Thoughts written as I watched:

• Clarke just hanging out in Lexa's room, sketching her as she sleeps, delights me. How did they end up there? Did Lexa invite her up for a meeting and then fall asleep? Do they just hang out in Lexa's room now? I loved Clarke comforting Lexa after her nightmare.

• It is so nice to see Raven happy and smiling but at the same time there is this cloud of doom hanging over her. She's too happy.

• I love Octavia saving the Grounder boy.

• I love Kane leading an underground resistance and that both Octavia and Miller (yay!) are a part of it. I wish Abby was more obviously working with Kane every step of the way as co-leaders. I guess they decided to divide up problems and she got dealing with Jaha?

• I'm happy to finally get a first name for Monroe - Zoe!

• Booooo to Monty and Monroe joining Pike, or more properly Hannah and Bellamy. That makes me so sad. They have to still be in the dark right? I can't see Monty keeping on this path. This is giving me so much stress.

• They only have enough food left for a year, okay. So trade for food? Make an deal to create fields and share the crop? Find a different place to plant? That specific spot may have the best soil but that doesn't mean other places have bad soil. Pick a less good but still clearly adequate spot. Ugh. Why are they just accepting this ridiculous 'kill or starve' dichotomy? Don't fall for this nonsense Monty!

• It's weird but now that Monty has been dragged into this nonsense, on the wrong side, I'm like 'whatever Bellamy you're on your own. Monty, baby, don't do it'.

• Oh Lexa. She looked so taken back and even betrayed by Clarke when she sided with Titus. I can't blame her since she clearly thought 'blood must not have blood' was a pact they made together. That it was the two of them together working to change things towards peace as a team and already Clarke has abandoned her.

• I loved this line: "So 'blood must not have blood' applies only when it is my people who bleed?" I think Clarke does have a point in that the situations are very different - Emerson did the act he's being punished for and no one else will be dragged into it, Pike and his followers are the ones who killed Indra's army so it wouldn't be right to punish all of Skaikru plus many Grounders will die. But at the same time does it really matter? It's not about specific situations, it's a line in the side, an idea saying 'no more violence, no more vengeance, no more blood'. You don't get to make exceptions for that and it's pretty hypocritical of Clarke.

"If they don't leave we're leading our people into an ambush." - Miller. Uh, you mean your people that are going there specifically to wipe out a peaceful village, including the children, those people? Frankly they deserve anything they have coming to them. I'm a little disappointed in Miller - it shouldn't need to take the threat of war to decide saving the village is the right thing to do.

• It was nice to see Raven still thinking and questioning even if she was doing it a little too cheerfully and then it rapidly went to brainwashed creepiness.

"No one's dying today. - Hannah. It's probably a bad thing that I want them to die? I mean definitely not Monty (I will be so mad show, don't you dare!! ), or Monroe (she has a first name now and she needs a storyline first), or Bellamy (even if he's being an asshole) but I wouldn't be sad if Hannah was killed (I had such hopes for you, ugh) or if like in the confusion Octavia accidentally stabbed Pike in the face.

• Why, oh why, is Monty going on the murder trip? What the hell is he thinking? Yeah, he's clearly uncomfortable but he's still there and I don't like it at all.

• Oh so Bryan's going on the murder trip. Okay Miller's hesitance to warn the village makes more sense now and I feel for him.

• Oh Octavia. Always doing what's right if when it ends up putting her in danger. Man, she and Lincoln are made for each other.

"It's hard to recognise hope even when it's right in front of them." I figured that when Kane arrived as Jackson said that it was going to simply be more ship teasing but then we got Abby supporting/comforting Kane (a nice reversal from when he supported her) and then she kissed him! 'call it hope'! I rather low key ship them so this made me really happy.

• I have to agree with Kane - he did royally mess up. Democracy's awesome and should be encouraged but in that situation they should have maybe made an exception or Abby should have kept the Chancellorship. And they both failed as leaders if Pike got voted in that easily.

"With Clarke gone Bellamy's the key." - Kane. I found this interesting because what if Clarke was there? Could she really do anything at this point? I'm not even sure what the rest of the 100 or the Arkadian's think of Clarke at this point. Is she a hero to them for Mount Weather? Do they know about her being in Polis and consider that a betrayal? Would she be able to successfully stand against or take down Pike? I'm doubtful.

• I liked Jasper apologising for stealing and dropping Finn's ashes. It was nice to see him actually thinking of someone else and being ashamed of his behaviour for once. Sign number 2 of Raven's creepy ALIE brainwashing - she just smiles and shrugs it off. Jasper lucked out in his timing.

"Give us a minute." This is such a telling little detail here. Clarke may protest about not wanting to be a leader but that's exactly what she is. She walks in and orders the guards to leave without a second thought and she's expects them to listen.

• I can totally see where Titus is coming from and I'm even kind of on his side here? He was right that Clarke did murder a bunch for the actions of a few (though the situation was very different.) More importantly he is right that Clarke pushed Lexa into a very tenuous position that could get her killed.

"Wells?" - Jaha. ...!!! WTF? Wow, that is screwed up.

• Oh, Jackson no. Why are all these secondary characters I like so much making terrible decisions and putting themselves in so much danger? I know this show, they're going to start killing them off and making me sad.

• I loved Monroe calling for Monty for help and Monty going back for her. Even fighting against Pike's men to go back into the smoke.

• Damn it, not Monroe! I'm angry at Bellamy because she was only doing what she has from the beginning - following his lead, being loyal to him, trusting him. I'm also angry at her because she made the wrong choice and it was her choice. She knew exactly what they were going to that village for and she still went.

• Emerson's execution scene was perfect. I love so much how that played out.

- Clarke got called out three times this episode - from Lexa, Emerson and Titus - and I love so much that she actually considered what they said and came to the realisation that 'blood must not have blood' must be applied to every situation not just to those that work for her. I liked her telling Emerson that her killing him wouldn't be for what he did but for what she did. I also want someone to hug her over her thinking she doesn't deserve peace.

- "A world in which violence does not always answer violence. A world in which our children can flourish without the shadow of death." This was a really nice speech and a really great legacy if she could pull it off. But I'm very doubtful she can. I forsee much death I just hope it's not Lexa.

- I kind of loved Lexa abd Clark's rather vicious goodbyes to Emerson - 'live haunted by his ghosts knowing he's the last' and "May you live forever" respectively. Letting him live is definitely far more of a punishment than killing him.

- While I liked them banishing Emerson and thus being true to their new policy this is going to bite them in the ass at some point. They're going to regret it. This is the 100, so of course they are. Emerson hates Clarke and he's not going to just leave, and move on. My prediction: he's going to meet up with Ontari and they're going to pop up unexpectedly and create death and chaos probably just as Clarke and Lexa thinks they've reached some sort of peace.

• Poor Murphy. He has anti-luck. I hope Clarke saves him in the next episode. Actually since Octavia's now on her way to Polis maybe we can get Clarke/Octavia/Murphy teaming up.

• Idk what to think of Titus. I love his complete loyalty to Lexa and I like him and Clarke positioned as opposites. He was pretty reasonable in his meeting with Clarke. I've just been liking him a lot overall. But then he was apparently torturing Murphy for information about Clarke (which interesting) and at the end he asks Murphy a question and then starts wailing on him with a whip without letting him answer. So not that great a guy after all. I really hope his loyalty to Lexa stays true but he's so angry about her new policy and it has me worried.

• Polis is Polaris aka the 13th Ark Station!!! omg. I love this show. That was an amazing twist. I, like I think a lot of people did, assumed that Polis was Minneapolis. Are the Grounders or just those who live in and around Polis the descendents of that station? 'Blood must have blood'... starting all the way back from when the Ark blew Polaris out of the sky and sent them crashing back to Earth? This delights me so much.

• Theories: I assumed that the whole Nightblood/having black blood thing was a radiation caused mutation but what if it's actually something to do with ALIE and AIs somehow? ... ooh, what if the first Commander was Becca, ALIE's creator, and the Nightbloods were created as a defense against ALIE? Maybe the blood makes it so they can't be taken over by ALIE? That's why the Commander has to be a Nightblood. They have some sacred duty to oppose ALIE/anyone following the infinity symbol which is why Lexa has a broken one tattooed on the back of her neck? I'm so excited to see where this goes.
