Deadpool Review

iariaI really enjoyed it.
+ It was pretty hilarious. I really love that none of the humour felt mean-spirited. Some of the more fratboy humour didn't work for me but overall a lot of the humour did and there were a lot of really great fourth wall breaking jokes. My favourites include him asking Colosuss if he's dragging him back to see "McAvoy or Stewart", him asking "do you think Ryan Reynolds got where he is from his superior acting ability" and him pointing out that "it's like the studio couldn't afford another X-Men". The Deadpool doll from Wolverine: Origins was pretty great too. There were a lot of hilarious moments but I'd have to watch it again to remember them all.
+ I figured I was going to enjoy this movie right from the credit which I loved. Writers: The Real Heroes, lol.
+ I really liked Deadpool and Ryan Reynold's really was perfectly cast. He's a lot more sane than his comic version but that makes sense to me and otherwise he is very much like his comic self.
+ I liked the romance between Wade and Vanessa a lot. Their relationship had a lot of sweetness in it and they're very much two people who get each other and match perfectly. Their sex montage was fun. Their little flirty moment when Deadpool started hallucinating cartoon animals was adorable. I really liked their final scene and how it played out.
+ The movie also had a surprising amount of heart to it that I wasn't expecting. I'm thinking mainly of three scenes - Wade crying silently to himself in the middle of the night after learning he's dying, Wade and his fellow lab rat discussing their bucket lists, and that moment with Blind Al where she sits next to him and he rests his head against her.
+ I loved Negasonic Teenage Warhead. She was a delight from start to finish and I really hope she's in the sequel. TPTB made a really great choice by dumping her comic powers and giving her her new movie one. They also make so much more sense with her name. When she crushed the two soldiers with a bus my immediate thought was that Professer X was not going to be happy and she was so grounded.
+ I was less sold on Colossus but I ended up loving his relationship with Deadpool. I like to think that Xavier made Colossus the X-Men's Deadpool wrangler and Colossus decided if he was going to be forced to be Deadpool's babysitter than he may as well try turning him to the side of good and less violent murder. They had a really good back and forth. I loved Deadpool killing Francis right in the middle of Colossus's inspirational speech.
Also as a character point I loved Colossus giving Negasonic a protein bar before they leave the mansion because 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day'.
+ The opening highway scene was great from start to finish. Wade counting his bullets ['bad Deadpool!' when he misses the guy on the bike] and taking out all of Francis's men, Deadpool's tantrum at being interrupted, the Deadpool/Colossus 'fight' [T-Rex, lol!] and how Deadpool escaped [Negasonic's grossed out expression amused me especially after her amused reaction to his fight with Colossus.]
+ The lead up to the final fight was great. I loved the cool hero alk being interruped by Negasonic pointing out that Deadpool forgot his bag of weapons and how that played out, the hero landing and Deadpool's glee over it and Deadpool sending Negasonic in [waiting for her to finish texting first of course, it was just as funny in the theatre as it was in the trailer.]
+ Dopinder was a lot of fun. I loved the second ride a lot especially Deadpool loudly scolding Dopinder while quietly giving him (bad) advice and a thumbs up.
+ I liked the sequence where Wade creates his Deadpool persona.
+ I really liked the Deadpool/Blind Al relationship.
+ Vanessa didn't have a lot to do plotwise, she was definitely The Girlfriend, but I really liked her and I loved that she got to free herself from the chamber and attack Ajax.
+ The Bob cameo was a wonderful surprise.
+ Deadpool spelling Francis in bodies was great.
