Fringe 3x20 and Bones 6x19 Thoughts

I enjoyed this episode much more than the previous one. I liked that we went back and forth between the universes.
- I love that Olivia’s time on the other side as red Olivia is coming into play and proving that she does remember. I really hope we get to see more of that.
- I really liked that as soon as red Olivia figured out what Walter was trying to do she immediately tried to stop him. I did feel like she had an obvious excuse for her actions that she could have tried to hide behind – her wanting to cross to save Peter, the father of her son and possibly the man she loves, by bringing him back across – and I was surprised that she didn’t try to sell it. Frankly I’m surprised that Walter didn’t jump to that conclusion first.
- Walternate being willing to sacrifice Peter was a bit unexpected. I've actually been disappointed by how the Walternate/Peter relationship has played. More specifically that they don't really have one. The bits of humanity we've seen in Walternate have mostly been around his love for his son - except when he's actually with his son. I think it would have been far more interesting for the show to have explored Peter's relationship with Walternate and actually had them bonding.
- I love that there was all this build up to Peter getting ready to sacrifice himself in the machine to save the universe – and instead he gets blown across the room. I really like Peter but this is Olivia’s show, and I love her so much more, and in the end I want her to be the one to save the universes.
Actually I discovered while watching this episode that what I really want is for the two Olivia’s to work together to save the world – and succeed together. (Also just putting this out there - I really do not want Red Olivia to die and for Blue Olivia and Peter to raise his son. Just, no.)
- I actually kept expecting blue Olivia to use her powers to cross over to stop Walternate but no one even brought up the possibility. What is the point of her having universe crossing powers if she doesn’t use them?
- I really liked the Broyles/Walter scene about Peter (they’re a pair we don’t see very often, which actually reminds me that I want more Broyles/Olivia), the Astrid/Walter scenes (her holding his hand so tightly – aww!), the Astrid/Peter and Astrid/Olivia scenes at the end and the Olivia/Nina scene (we haven’t had one of those it seems like forever).
- The red Olivia/Lincoln seen was interesting because he was clearly wearing his love on his sleeve (or expression) but I really didn’t get the feeling that they were together. In fact it seems as if either Olivia is ignoring the ‘I love you’ or she forgot about it.
- Charlie’s absence was really felt especially with Olivia’s line about Lincoln being the only one she could trust. When she said that I went ‘uh, wait a second!’ That really bugged me.
Bones 6x19 ‘The Finder'
- I did not go into this episode knowing it was the set up for a spin off but when Booth and Brennan went off on the very flimsiest of pretexts to see Wally within the first five minutes it just screamed ‘spin off happening here’. Okay, the fact that Michael Clarke Duncan was one of the people at the bar was what was screaming the loudest. I hate when shows do this. It’s always annoying and this episode wasn’t really different.
However it didn’t really try and hide what it was, the majority of the time was spent with Wally and his crew, and so it felt far less like an episode of Bones and more like an episode of a new show called The Finder where are Bones cast make a couple guest appearances. And that actually worked to its advantage. After the first fifteen minutes or so I was able to mostly let go of my irritation and watched the episode as a new show pilot that was just wonderfully having a crossover with Bones. By the end I even almost liked it. Now whether or not I’ll check out the new series I don’t know but I'm doubtful. I’m eh about yet another show about a white male ‘genius’. I’m over those.
- I liked Booth trying to get Brennan’s ID back and how it devolved into a fight with Wally. That was amusing.
- I liked pretty much all of Wally’s interactions with the Bones cast but especially with Brennan. The scene in her office when he gives her the lost medal from her science project as well as a newspaper clipping with a picture of her and her mom was excellent. Brennan being so moved by it was a really nice moment.
- Wally saying ‘the Bones lady could be the one’ makes me want for him and Brennan to date while Booth grinds his teeth in the background and Sweets watches it all and goes ‘hmm’ and Booth snaps at him to shut up.
- I'm curious about what exactly Booth was doing all episode while Wally was playing investigator.
- I loved seeing ‘Carina’ again as Brittney (and the timing was fun considering I’d just read an excellent fic about her). I wish the actress had been cast as Ike instead of the woman who was because her accent bugs me. It did grow on me a bit – in the beginning I hated it and by the end I was more used to it but I still don’t like it.
