Terminator Genisys Thoughts

iariaI'd heard that it was kind of terrible but I really enjoyed it. It was fun. The name spelling is still really stupid though.
+ I liked the twists on the story. Still a little pissed at the second trailer ruining the John twist because that would have been a great one.
+ I loved Sarah's relationship with Pops. They were wonderful. "Protect my Sarah" ♥ I loved that they both genuinely loved each other. I loved that he couldn't hit the switch because it would kill Sarah, and his expression when Sarah turned the gun on him and her reaction to him sacrificing himself and then when he showed up alive. They were my favourite part of the movie. I want a movie about 'Pops' raising and training Sarah as they stay on the run from terminators from the future.
+ Pops was awesome. I really enjoyed Schwarzenegger.
+ I liked how Sarah knowing the truth about Kyle complicated their relationship and her inner conflict over fate vs free will with regards to him.
+ I really liked how we got a Kyle who grew up idolising John and loved him but a Sarah who only knew him from stories told to her and how that contrasted Sarah being raised by Pops and loving him while Kyle was raised distrusting and hating terminators, and how both those things informed their reactions to various events. I want so much more of the messy Sarah/John/Kyle relationships. If there is a sequel it's something I'd want to see explored further especially since I'm betting that John isn't permanently erased from the timeline.
+ I wish they'd gone futher into this version of Skynet and it's relationship with John in the past.
+ Definitely not enough Lee Byung Hun.
+ Honestly my biggest issue was wondering why they went to 2017 directly and giving themselves so little time to stop Skynet instead of jumping a couple years ahead (like Skynet did with John) to give them more time to plan.
+ If there is a next movie I hope it doesn't gloss over the fact that so much of what happened in this movie had to have been caught on tape. No one had their phones out when John emerged from the exploding bunker? No cameras in the police station? What are the conspiracy theories about what the hell happened at Cyberdyne? How does the government explain some of the stuff that happened?
