5x04 '6,741'

I loved it.

+ God, Shaw. 6, 741 times she's repeated this simulation. That's horrifying but at the same time kind of triumphant and badass? Because after all this time she still hasn't broken; she still hasn't led them to the Machine. That's amazing. I adore that it's because of her love for Root. That her refusal to kill Root is so deep that she always ends it by killing herself instead. So basically her love for Root is what's protecting all the people she cares about.

+ The reveal at the end that it was all a simulation could have been annoying but it worked for me. It was just so well done. Shaw was great and I'm so happy to have her back. I had lots of thoughts and feelings while watching but the twist at the end kind of made it immaterial. But a couple things:

- I loved the Shaw/Root scenes. The sex scene as a whole didn't entirely work for me but I loved how agressive they were with each other. I loved Shaw's "You were my safe place." Looking back I love how certain Shaw is of Root's devotion to her. This also gives us a look into Shaw's head and her feelings towards Root - which apparently are just as strong as Root's. So that was a nice confirmation.

- I found it interesting that Shaw sees Finch as the one who would give up on her being alive (and Root never would) which is pretty much exactly how it played out in reality. I guess she just knows him that well? Shaw directs her anger directly at him but then also has that apology, where he is entirely full of sincerity and care towards her. I really loved that scene and hope we get something like that at their real reunion.

- I was really taken by the fact that John turned his back on Shaw in the alley - despite his distrust over whether she might have turned or been helping Greer, the fact that she's acting very off and that he's unwilling to take her back to home base yet - and thought it showed the remarkale amount of trust he has in her. And then it didn't happen (yay not dead Reese). But I do think it shows that Shaw sees how much Reese does actually accept, care and trust her.

- "Harold's alone. Unprotected." - Root. I just love any time Root shows her love and protectiveness of Finch, and I guess post-reveal it shows how well Shaw knows Root.

5x05 'ShotSeeker'

I really enjoyed this one.

+ Elias is alive!! ♥ I completely didn't see that coming but I love it. So did they tell him everything? I'm so excited about him as a true in-the-know ally. Also I have to know: who was it that played nurse while he was recovering - Finch or Reese?

+ There was some really great Reese/Fusco stuff here. I loved Reese's "You want to talk about loyalty? I'll kill you myself if you ever go near Fusco again." I loved Fusco refusing to step back and do nothing while Reese was missing and rallying the troops to find him. I loved that when Reese calls Fusco at th end his response was a sincere "As long as you're okay." I love their loyalty to each other.

+ "You stuck your neck out for me and we appreciate it. Thank you. From all of us." - Reese. I just found this so interesting. Instead of it simply being between Reese and Fusco he brings in Finch/Root too. "We" appreciate it and from "all of us". It also makes me a little sad because its positioning Fusco as an outsider, loved friend and ally though he is, but which he really shouldn't be.

+ TELL FUSCO GODDAMMIT. By far my biggest issue this season is the way Fusco is being kept in the dark. I realise the logic is that they're trying to protect him but even beyond my dislike of the trope he is not backing down. He is continuing to dig into the truth and it's only a matter of time before he goes too far. He has been a part of this from season one, he has been a trusted ally who has gone above and beyond, he's a friend and they seriously just need to bring him into the fold already. Ugh.

+ "He was worried about you, John. (looks down) We all were. I really love the way Finch looks away when he says 'we all were'. Like, he's so overcome by the worry he felt that he can't even look at John as he mentions it. Or at least that's how I'm choosing to read it.

+ As always I love Finch/Root together. I like how they work together and I enjoy their discussions about the Machine. I loved Finch saying that he did trust the Machine but considering how intelligent she is he thinks if anyone should recode her it should be herself. I loved Finch's worry when Root had to go into the field.

I didn't why Finch was keeping Root away from the Machine vs Samaritan cage match. As far as that goes, I feel like the answer here is not to pit them against each other but to have the Machine mentor Samaritan, teach it new things.

+ I found it a little surprising but loved how emotional Root got over Reese's disappearance. At first she seemed fine but then when she went to the Machine and asked for her help she was so obviously upset. "Show me John Reese" and the way she compares him to Shaw and tells Finch that they 'can't lose him too' was great.
