Lost Girl 1x06 Review

• One thing I really love is how comfortable Kenzi is with Bo. I ship them but I also love their friendship and I love how there is not even a hint of Kenzi being uncomfortable around Bo. I mean Bo is leaning over her talking about orgasms and they touch each other so much and yet we never get any hint of any gay panic from Kenzi. That’s fabulous.
• I liked Bo’s worry for Kenzi but it was Dyson/Kenzi that made me go aww. I liked him staying at her side when she was brought to Lauren’s lab (“I’m not scared or anything I’m just bored and you amuse me.” made me smile), the scene at the park was really wonderful, him taking care of her throughout and worrying about her was great. The park scene in particular was lovely. It had a big brother/baby sister feel to it. I’m really enjoying where the show is going with them.
• I loved Kenzi asking Dyson to watch Bo’s back if anything happened to her. I love how Bo is always Kenzi’s first thought.
• Lauren/Bo was nice. I like the way they look at each other. And I liked getting to see them work together as well. Their shared glee at Bo having controlled herself was cute.
• I liked getting to learn more about how Bo ‘works’ – she sees what she calls ‘energy flows’ which are sort of like an aura that surrounds people that tells her how aroused they are. I guess this is how succubi pick their meals but why would it matter how aroused someone is considering that a succubus makes people aroused? It just seems kind of redundant. Perhaps it’s not a hunting skill but just a side effect of what they are? This does make me very curious about how Bo sees the world. Does she see colour or intensity around everyone she sees all the time?
• Wait the plan was for them to go to a bar, get drunk and then for Bo to try controlling her powers on Lauren? That... does not seem like the best plan. I thought the whole point was for Bo to pick someone up and try on them with Lauren there to control the situation in case something went wrong. Wasn’t the point of ‘testing herself out of the lab’ about keeping control when hungry and among a lot of people who ping her food radar? Also the implication that Bo has been trying for control at Lauren’s lab – how exactly has she been doing that? I kind of get the feeling that they haven’t been making out a lot so has Lauren been importing random Fae for Bo to experiment on? How else could she be practicing control but to use her ability?
• “It might help if you stop fighting your true nature. The fae aren’t monsters Bo and neither are you.” Wow, Lauren really is completely immersed into the world of the Fae isn’t she? They’re people to her regardless of the fact that they’re not human and in some cases feed on humans. Huh, it just suddenly makes me think of Elena and the idea of her going native with the Salvatore brothers. The situation with the two of them is very similar. Of course Lauren is way more immersed than Elena is yet, not unexpected since Lauren’s been involved with her predator community longer, and this really stuck out to me with this line: “Could it be due to someone you ate?” She is only talking about dead bodies but still the way she says that so calmly, as if it’s not completely creepy or weird. It’s just a simple question on a normal day. I find this pretty fascinating – going native – and it feels like Lauren could be a look into Elena’s future. Heh – now I’m imagining it’s a couple years in the future and Damon gets sick and Elena is standing over him partially worried and partially exasperated and all “Okay, Damon, who did you eat?” Imagining that is amusing me.
• It’s not very professional of Lauren to take Bo and Kensi with her on a doctor’s visit.
• Kenzi actually handled the whole ‘ate corpse soup’ better than I would have. I’ll assume that we just missed all the puking that must have happened directly after they told her what she ate. That was definitely the most disgusting thing ever on this show (and many others frankly) just ew, ew, ew. One of the worst parts is probably how delicious she clearly found the stew to be. I don’t know that I would be able to eat a burger so soon after that. I did like how throughout the episode she kept rinsing her mouth out. She will definitely not be helping herself to food at a Fae’s house again.
• “I’m always putting my foot in my mouth but at least it’s always been my foot.” – Kenzi. LOL. See – I could not be that snarky and amusing after eating part of a corpse.
• I wish we could have had Dyson seeing Bo and Lauren interact without Bo catching him watching them. I want Bo/Lauren to be about them and not as some reaction to Dyson. I think it’s clear that there is something there but I don’t even want the hint of Bo pursuing Lauren because Dyson is holding her at arm’s length and this episode did give me that feeling a little. If they’re going the love triangle route I want Bo to be sincerely torn between the two of them.
• “I know that we’re not undercover any more. This is the real world.” – Lauren. Um. What does that even mean? It would make sense if their cover had involved them making out – either because that’s what their cover was or say because they got so excited by Bo’s control that they ended up making out on the steps – but nothing happened that has these two sentences making sense to me.
• My biggest issue with the episode was Trick’s reaction to Kenzi’s illness. I would have found it surpriseing just with his obvious concern for her and the fact that he cleared out his bar for her. They’ve barely interacted and yet his concern seemed equal to Bo’s. It felt strange. But then he went far beyond that in the effort to save her life by trading something very important and very valuable (and giving a further trade/favour on top of it) for something to give her more time and it left me really confused. They seriously have barely interacted why the hell would he do that? It just makes no sense to me. I could buy it for Dyson who Trick clearly cares about, or for Bo who he clearly has plans/hopes for but Kenzi? I just can’t grasp it. Is this something personal where he feels the need to make up for a past mistake Kenzi reminds him of? Is he just that kind? I do not buy that. Or does it have something to do with Bo and what he wants from her? This is certainly a great way to get her on their side and I could buy it being a machination to further his plans... except we never once get any hint that it’s anything like that. He’s just all very worried about Kenzi and then very relieved when she gets better. I really hope we get an explanation for this. (Perhaps by saving Bo’s ‘human’s’ life he now has a hold over Bo?)
