Star Trek: Beyond
Jul. 26th, 2016 10:52 pmI liked it.
I loved Jaylah. I l liked her as a character, I liked her interactions with the others, I loved her whole look. I thought the actress did a great job. Her friendship with Scotty was wonderful.
I liked how the movie broke them off into a bunch of separate groups.
The Spock/Bones friendship was delightful. Super loved them. McCoy’s reaction to being volunteered by Spock to take over one of the alien ships was a delight. McCoy's worry for Spock throughout including the reoccuring theme of him being concerned about Spock/Uhura was wonderful.
I wish we’d gotten more character stuff with the Uhura/Sulu team-up. They were there together, working as a team but some talking/bonding would have been nice.
I loved Uhura going down herself to separate the saucer section and doing so even when she found herself trapped on the wrong side with the enemy.
I’m really happy Uhura/Spock are still very much in love and are back together by the end.
"You gave your girlfriend radioactive jewellery?" ... "You gave your girlfriend a tracking device?" - Bones. LOL.
Spock’s motivations made sense to me but Kirk’s less so. That said, I really liked Kirk in this movie.
I liked how affected Spock was by Spock Prime's death.
Loved Yorktown – it made no sense but it was so sci-fi and just cool. But you’d think considering how very obviously precarious the situation is for it – the whole snow-globe thing – that they’d have more defenses in place.
I liked how many alien there were in this movie.
I'm so glad that there was no romance between Kirk and Jaylah.
The ship chase in Yorktown was nice and I loved that visual of the Franklin coming up out of the water to intercept the ships. And all the Federation offices running out of the building to help.
I was a little bugged by how McCoy/Spock just disappeared for like 10 minutes during the final showdown. They were still flying around in their ship so why didn’t they intercede in the Krall situation sooner?
I loved that whole sequence of them blowing up the ship swarm using ‘classical’ Earth music.
I was a little annoyed how during the sequences where they are working out how to defeat the swarm everyone contributed a piece of the puzzle [awesome!] - except for Uhura. :(
I like the sequence with the attack on the Enterprise.
 Yay, Keener/Scotty partnership.
I liked Sulu’s couple moments of concern for his family during the attack. It was subtle but lovely.
I don't know if it was my theatre or the accents or the music being too loud but a number of times I had difficulty understanding diologue. There was one scene with Scotty where I couldn't understand anything he said.
