The Blacklist 3x16 & 3x17 Thoughts

iaria3x16 'The Caretaker' (No. 78)
• As annoying as Liz's waffling about Red is, Red's unending unwillingness to just tell Liz the truth is also annoying. Listen to Dembe, Red! What the heck could be in that red letter? Some horrible truth about her mom?
• I genuinely believe that Tom wants to be a better person, that he truly loves Liz and the he wants to have back that normal life they lived together - both he and Liz seem to be sharing that hope/delusion - but probably the first part of that would be not to lie to Lizzie again immediately. Oi.
• I enjoyed the Tom/Gina scene.
• Judging!Dembe is the best and he got to do a lot of it this ep.
• It felt weird for Liz to bring up wanting her mom at her wedding and not mentioning either of her dads, especially Sam who raised who and only died a couple years ago and probably walked her down the isle the first time. It would have made far more sense to have Liz bring him up and then segue into her mother. It felt awkward.
• I loved Red's grin when Liz told him that she was keeping the baby and then his expression when he went "we".
• What the hell is up with Ressler lately?
3x17 'Mr. Solomon' (No. 32)
• "I hope you can be there. Both of you." - Liz. This was nice and I love that Liz made sure to invite Dembe too and his sweet thank you. I enjoyed both of the Red/Liz individual scenes actually. I always love when Red gets emotional which he did in their scene at the church as he begged her not to marry Tom. I love how much they affect each other.
• Liz's walk down the aisle to get Red's bag of guns as the front of her dress was covered in red dots was pretty badass. Sure, they had orders to take her alive but accidents can happen.
• I was really expecting Liz to be angry at Red at the start of the episode - since she ended the last one thinking he actually lied to her about her mother's death and perhaps had even been trying to keep the apart and all - and yet nope. No anger at all. No mention about it even. It was weird. He didn't even do anything to win back her favour! She just dealt with it off-screen apparently accepting that she can be mad at him but still care about him and want him in her life. ... which is great? Because that's what I want from them but it's still weird.
• There were some really great scenes between Liz and the rest of the Taskforce.
+ The Liz/Ressler scene was really nice. We haven't really had a good scene between them in awhile. I actually like that he doesn't think she should marry Tom and says so, his reasons why but that in the end he still offered his support for her. I loved his grin at the reminder that Liz kept Tom prisoner for two months and tortured him.
+ I still don't entirely buy that Liz sees Harold as a father, and her 'closest thing I have to a real father' was weird and felt false, but their scenes together were genuinely lovely
+ Aram's everything about the wedding was lovely. The music playlist, his little 'oh no' rant about the new wedding timetable, his grandfather's car all decorated up, his utter awkwardness with Tom (so adorable!)
+ We even got a nice little scene between Ressler and Samar with him not being a dick.
+ The only one missing was a Liz/Samar scene. It felt very noticeable considering she was attending the wedding and we had those nice scenes between them a couple episodes ago so it would have been nice to get here.
• I love Dembe care taking Red's emotional well-being.
• The Tom/Liz scene pre-wedding where he confesses about the Major (thank you!) and then she tells him "I am willing to help you carry you baggage if you can help me carry mine." was really sweet.
• I really enjoy Mr. Solomon as a bad guy so I hope he survives the next episode but that said his plan was pretty dumb, imo. I'm pretty sure there was a far less extreme way to kidnap Liz then setting up a fake bomb theft and bringing a ton of mercenaries to shoot up a church. Grab her at the dry clearners, or at the store, or cut her off in traffic and kidnap her from her car. I can think of a million better ways.
