Sotto Voice

I really enjoyed this.

• That final shot of Team Machine reunited as a team made me so happy. I like the location call back to the pilot and the beginning of Team Machine.

• The Finch/Elias team-up was great. I've always loved their relationship and they worked really well together here. I loved Elias repeatedly emphasising how much Finch means to him - telling Finch that he 'couldn't afford to lose another friend' and then later telling the bomb maker that Harold was his friend. I love that however much Finch might distrust Elias's morals he does trust him - as shown by the fact that when Elias tells him to freeze he does so immediately.

I'm curious about what exactly Elias is doing here and what his plan is, and he has to have one. Last episode he confronted Finch with the fact that Elias thinks he's the most dangerous of them all, that he has an inner darkness and that Elias didn't want to be there when it happened. But then we get this episode where Elias blows up the Voice and then at Finch's shocked reaction tells him, confidently, "You must have known I'd do something like this." and Finch's expression says -- yeah, he did. Elias could have easily done that out of Finch's sight or in a less spectacular way but he purposefully did it in front of Finch, and more importantly, he brought up Finch's culpability in it and forced him to acknowledge it. It's as if Elias is trying to actively push Finch toward that inner darkness. They would be so scary as a team. I'm now imagining a mirror universe with dark!Finch hiring Elias instead of Reese and then taking over the New York underworld on the way to world domination.

"You can't be permitted to continue." - Finch. I don't know if it was because Elias primed me for it but that was actually scary. I even wondered for a second there if Finch wouldn't be the one to kill Terry himself.

• The Root/Shaw reunion was everything I could have wanted. I loved everything about Root's expressions when she realised it was Shaw and the way she couldn't stop touching her. I loved Shaw's reaction and her uncertainty. I loved Root's little smile when Shaw admitting that the one person she couldn't kill in the simulations was Root. I really loved Root's reaction to Shaw's threat to kill herself - an ultimatium of suicide/suicide because she doesn't want to live without Shaw - because that is such a Root response.

• I was a little disappointed that we didn't get more of a reaction from the others to Shaw's return. I wanted hugs damn it!

• There's been a dreadful lack of good Finch/Reese moments and I really hope we get something reminiscent of the early season bond. That said we get some nice moments of worry for each other and in a moment I loved Finch immediately going along with Reese's decision. Considering how he's been the overwhelming push behind keeping the truth from Fusco it says a lot about his trust in and respect for Reese that he doesn't even argue.

• Reese/Fusco were excellent. I loved them working together again and how easily they fell back into having each others' backs. I loved Lionel jumping at the gunman to save Reese.

• Finch's face when Reese told him that Fusco had been shot made me go 'aww, Finch'. And then he went all dark!Finch likely because of that but still accepted Reese's decision to tell Fusco the truth.

"Maybe the best we can do is trust each other. - Reese. YES! God god, I can't believe that it took him/them this long to come to this conclusion. They should have brought him closer at the beginning of the season, hell, at the beginning of last season!

• I really wish that Reese had taken Fusco to the train station, told him with Finch and introduced him to the Machine. It would have had more resonance but I am so damn happy that it's finally done that I don't even care that we don't get Fusco's reaction. I hope we can get a lot of Fusco finally fully on Team Machine packed into the final four episodes. Also since we didn't get a reaction from learning about the Machine and everything else I want lots of reaction shots to being on the inside for once.

• I understand why he wasn't but I wish Elias had been there at the end. Hopefully Elias's inclusion in this episode, with his willingness to go to extremes on Finch's behalf, and how the episode ended Finch will be marshalling all of his forces and will bring Elias into the fold. I'm pretty sure that Elias won't make it out of the series alive but since they made a point to bring him back from what seemed like certain death I feel like they have to do something important/interesting with him. There has to be a reason for his survival, right? Thus far we haven't really gotten anything. Oh, man, he would be a fun addition on Team Machine and I really want to see it.
