Fated to Love You Episodes 3 & 4 Thoughts
Sep. 2nd, 2016 11:37 pmHmm. I didn’t enjoy these episodes near as much as the last one but I like the main duo enough that I’ll keep going.
Episode 3
+ I loved Gun saving Mi Young from Lawyer Min’s aggressiveness and that he got him fired as part of a his deal.
+ I found the reveal of the pregnancy to Gun scene a bit meh. I found Mi Young’s mother too overbearing though I liked her snapping out that if she left it up to Mi Young she’d just apologise. I really want Mi Young and Gun to defend themselves better and I wish that what President Park did was treated more seriously than it is.
+ Mi Young and Gun’s tandem ‘ohgod’ head drops when Mi Young’s mom told Gun’s grandmother about the pregnancy was hilarious.
+ I loved how Chairwoman Wang’s reaction to the pregnancy was shot where at first you think she’s upset before the reveal that she’s actually incandescently happy. I saw it coming, what with the family pressure, but it was still great.
+ The Daniel/Mi Young confession booth scene was lovely. He’s totally her brother and it’s going to be great when they’re reunited.
Episode 4
+ I’ve realised that I enjoy serious and/or normal Gun a lot but the OTT drama queen weirdo version of him leaves me cold.
+ I'm continuing to really enjoy Gun/Mi Young. The storeroom scene was really great and I liked him offering to go to the doctor with her because she shouldn't have to do it alone. I really liked his honesty with her when he proposed.
+ Wait, Gun didn’t realise that the Idiot Duo were behind That Night? Huh. And now he thinks Mi Young was a part of it, ouch. This is going to be painful.
+ That was the saddest wedding.
+ I really liked the Gun/Se Ra phone call. They are great and I felt so bad for both of them. I think Gun made the right choice in not saying anything to Se Ra because it probably would have ruined her performance and she’s going to need her career. I’m already feeling terrible for her when she learns what has happened.
+ Mi Young’s mother [who I’ll just call mom since I can’t find a name] grew on me a lot more with this episode. She is rather abrasive but she loves her daughter and that shines through. She won me over when she defended Mi Young against the factory workers’ attempt to guilt her into marrying to help them. Mom wanted the same thing but there was no way that she was going to let them take advantage of Mi Young’s inability to say no to force her into doing something she didn’t want to do. It was pretty great even if she did it by first listing every one of Mi Young’s failings first. I also liked that she asked Mi Young what it was she wanted.
+ I liked that the show brought up abortion as an option and both Mi Young and Gun’s reasoning and reactions about it worked for me. Unfortunately, there was a lot in how it played out that really bugged me. The doctor telling Mi Young that even though the fetus is less than a centimetre long it can hear her voice; the two crying girls escorted out of the hospital by their boyfriends, grieving the choice they made; Gun rushing into the room and physically carrying Mi Young out. That last could have worked – he’d shown that he respected her choice leading up to that moment, he knew she didn’t necessarily want the abortion but thought she should do it – and yet it didn’t for me. The whole thing left me wishing that they’d just skipped this plotline.
+ I loved mom’s expression when grandma Wang arrived at the hospital and freaked out on Gun – she was all ‘whoa, calm down there, weirdo’, which is a little rich coming from her, lol.
+ Mom threatening Gun was amusing while also going too far but what made it was Mi Young and Mi Ja’s ‘aww, adorable’ smiles in the background
+ The Daniel/Mi Young scene was lovely. I love how he’s quietly supportive of her while offering her judgement free advice. I liked her telling him to ‘be confident’ and loved that before she left she encouraged him with ‘cheer up’ which was very sweet. I love that they don’t know who the other is and yet they’re still there for each other.
