High School of the Dead Episode 8 Review

• The scene with the boys talking about guns while all the girls were all immersed with clothes was a bit annoying. I found myself going ‘one of the girls had better get a gun’ so Rei showing up with the huge ass gun was pretty awesome.
• Rei being thrown from the vehicle is exactly why you do not ride on the roof of the car.
• There were many things that irritated me about how things played out at the end. This includes:
- Hirano giving Takashi shooting lessons as the zombies moved in and not shooting himself – could he not do both?
- Takashi dropping his weapon, taking injured Rei into his arms and saying “at least we’ll die together” – say what? *headdesk* No, seriously, WTF, Takashi? He could have picked Rei up and tried to get her to safety, he could have called to Hirano for a weapon but just giving up? I wanted to smack him.
- I was not pleased that Takashi got to shoot Rei’s gun before her. I do wish that she’d been more obviously seriously hurt – as she should be – and unable to move/help herself because that would have made it easier to take.
- Where the hell is Saya? Shizuka doing nothing is par the course but why wouldn’t Saya have immediately left the vehicle to pull Rei to safely while the others held off the zombies? Minutes later she does get out, and even fights but it doesn’t really make up for the stupidity of her not getting out earlier to save Rei. I think everything is supposed to have happened much quicker than it appears but as it played out it annoyed me.
- The whole bullet thing with Takashi shooting around Saeto was silly.
- Then we get two points of stupidity that are basically built around the same point – first Takashi and Saeto try to lead the zombies away from the others (and fail) and second Saya holds Rei in her arms and basically just waits for them both to be eaten – and I am just wondering why the hell none of them thought of the oh so simple and much better idea of escaping through the fence. Why are they just sitting around?! As soon as the truck stopped they should have been climbing out and through the fence with Hirano and Takashi and Saeto holding off the zombies until all the others, including Rei, were through then going through themselves and then all of them running away. I was annoyed.
