The Adventures of Supergirl
This was a great episode. I'm so glad that I decided to start watching again. It's so happy and sunny and adorable.
• The El family is the most adorable ever and I love them. I love how damn smiley and lovely the two of them are - together and separately. Kara telling the kids about changing Superman's diapers, Clark teasing her about having super telepathy and her falling for it (lol), Kara being all happy that Lois worries for him, the adorable head kiss (!), their shared happiness at working together - all wonderful.
I really love how much Clark clearly respects her and how he shows it over and over this ep - from asking if she wants help with the plane, to not just scanning Mon-El himself but letting her do it, to all the ways he lets her lead, to trusting her to fix the building while he held it. I loved it.
I love that Kara was inspired while working with Clark and found the path she wanted to follow. I loved him supporting her and offering her advice.
• I don't want the show to become the Superman show but I love this Clark/Superman and his relationship with Kara and I really want him to stick around. Or at least show up every couple episode. This Clark is so perfect and I loved the first scene with him talking to Perry.
• "You inspire me Kara. I can see the hero in you. Now get out and make me proud." - Cat. ♥ Cat/Kara were amazing. All their scenes were excellent. I love how well Cat knows Kara, I loved the reporter reveal and I still think that Cat actually does know that Kara is Supergirl.
• Alex vs Corben was badass.
• I really don't understand what happened with Kara/James. I don't know why the show has decided to break them up but this was not the way to do it. Kara spent the entirety of last season wanting and crushing and pursuing James so this ended up feeling very forced and unnatural.
• I loved J'onn introducing Kara to the new DEO and her complaining about having to go to the cave last year. Though I'm pretty sure that poor bat that bit her regretted it a lot more than she did! I loved his "whiner".
• I like Katie McGrath and I find her Lena interesting enough so far. I do hope there's more to her than we've seen thus far. (Like she and Lex were working together to reestablish her standing, or something.) I loved her shooting Corben. I also quite enjoyed her interactions with Kara and Clark.
• I love that Cat has a thing for Clark.
Cat: So she's not still hung up on Superman?
Clark: I'd say that she has room in her life for both of us.
Cat: Well. That's modern.
LOLOLOL. One of my favourite moments. Cat's expression (oh yeah she wants in on that), Clark's reaction when he realised how Cat took it, Kara laughing at him. All it was missing was a James reaction shot.
• Everyone loving and being all gaga over meeting Superman was great. It might have bothered me under other circumstances but... it's Superman. And this Superman has been working for over a decade at this point and is adorable and winks at people and always talks to the kids, so I buy it. I loved Winn fanboying ("You look fantastic") because of course he does and Alex's "your cousin smells terrific." was the best (if only for Kara's reaction.)
• I thought the Superman/Alex hug was really interesting because it was so friendly that it's obvious that they have met and are surprisingly close. I thought Clark basically abandoned Kara with the Danvers family and they didn't see each other till recently but is that wrong? Perhaps he did visit in person irregularly? I'd like to think so because that's the one thing that's bothered me most about this show. The other possibility is them meeting via work but I don't see how that would lead to a closeness that would include using each others first names and hugging hello. Possibly I'm over-thinking this but I'm intrigued.
• I was disappointed that we didn't get more Clark/James. I was half shipping them last season based only on James talking about Clark but this episode didn't really give me anything to work with which is a blinding shame.
