Oceania 9/14 – I forgot about Tonga and Solomon Islands. I remembered Kiribati, or at least the Kiri part of it. What I really have to work on is learning Nauru and Vanuatu.
Africa 47/53 – I had the hardest time with Mauritania (kept forgetting the ‘r’) and thus Mauritius (which I didn’t get in time) and I forgot Sierra Leone and Mozambique.
OMG. omg Lauren Cohan is guest-starring on The Vampire Diaries! ♥ Sqeeeeeee! This makes me so ridiculously happy I can’t even say. I am pretty absurdly ecstatic right now. I loved Bela so much – she was the best part of Supernatural for me and the reason I can’t just dismiss the show from my mind – and I wish so much she’d had her own show. This new role won’t be Bela of course but it will be great to see Lauren again. Plus while her new role Rose won’t be Bela she will be “a tough, sexy vampire” who is over 500 years old and is described as “disarmingly elegant” and “Maybe there’s some humanity left in her – have fun finding it” which is pretty damn close to Bela in a lot of ways and sounds awesome!
It’s the Vampire Diaries PTB and they do such a fucking amazing job with their female characters especially with their female vampires (Katherine, Anna, Pearl, Lexie, Caroline are all fucking awesome and Vicki was great) and that makes me so excited. There’s a lot of worry and anxiety as well – not about Rose being a bad character but rather about how long she’ll survive. Of the aforementioned awesome female vampires four of the six are dead, which are not good odds specially when added to how the show kills great female characters and just supporting characters in general. It makes me nervous. I mean on the one hand she’s going to be introduced in an episode named after her and her role is apparently going to be fairly significant which gives me hope. On the other – well, history and the odds do not bode well for her. Also I am so excited about this that I might end up setting the bar so high that I just won’t be able to love the character like I might otherwise.
The only other piece of information given is that she “might just catch Damon’s eye” which also makes me really excited. It’s completely ridiculous since we know so little about the character and if it was another actor I wouldn’t care much and I know it but... Bela! I always forget how much I freaking love her and then bam! (Oh, I hope the character is portrayed in such a way that I can imagine that she used an alias called Bela Talbot at some point. That would be icing on the cake.) I am ridiculously OT3 but I don’t think this will get in the way of that. This actually relieves me a bit on the shipping front – I love Damon/Elena but I really don’t want the two of them to get together this season (I love Stefan/Elena too much, it would not be believable with the current Elena/Damon relationship which needs to be rebuilt carefully, and it would be harmful to Elena’s character) and so having him canonically attached elsewhere will be great.
That his interest will be onBela Rose will just make it particularly awesome. But if he stakes her I’ll be pissed off. (Oh, who am I kidding if the show kills her off I will be mad regardless.) From what little we know of her she seems exactly Damon’s type – the kind that won’t take his shit and will slap him around and down, and will basically dominate the crap out of him – which is great. I am very curious, out of all the potential interactions, in seeing Rose/Katherine since they’re around the same age. Do they know each other? Are they friends, allies, enemies or neutral on each other? Rose could end up being a much needed ally for Elena and the Salvatore’s since Katherine can kick all their asses without breaking a sweat. Oh, I can’t wait!
What I want is: Elena/Rose bonding as Elena and Damon mend their friendship, Rose taking Caroline under her wing, Rose/Katherine snarkiness/bitchiness and games, Rose/Damon smouldering, Rose just generally being the kickass female character that this set of PTB are so good at turning out. Maybe Rose can become Stefan’s new female vampire BFF? (Except, well, Caroline. Hmm)
What I don’t want: Rose dying, Elena jealous of Rose/Damon, Rose dying, Rose in an antagonistic relationship with Elena, and, um, Rose dying. That’s pretty much all I can think of right now that makes me go ‘do not want’.
A thought on Damon: Damon wants to be needed, he thrives on it. I think it’s a large reason why he came to be so close to Liz and to genuinely like her. She needed him and let him help her and then gave him trust/like/approval (ie. positive reinforcement) when he did. And he’s very protective of those he cares about.
Haven 1x13 ‘Spiral’
This was a pretty good finale. It ended with an excellent and shocking cliff-hanger that I didn’t see coming at all. I am so glad the show was renewed because it would suck so much if this was it.
• The fact that there is a different Special Audrey Parker is fascinating but there are so many questions. I mean new Audrey saying the exact same line to them that Audrey said to Nathan when they met is very weird but was it more than just coincidence?
- Then there’s the question of how Audrey became an FBI agent in the first place? When did she become Audrey Parker? Are her memories of growing up in an orphanage borrowed from this Audrey? They have to be right? Unless Lucy/Audrey de-ages at some point (say a certain age) or for a specific reason (say being killed triggering it) then she appears to be immortal and that background can’t be true. It makes sense it came from the ‘real’ Audrey. Just how similar are Audrey-Lucy and Audrey-real? Them saying the same line says a lot and I find that fascinating. Does this new Audrey also find herself drawn to unusual cases and is a workaholic with not many friends? Are their personalities the same or is the person we know as Audrey different – Lucy’s personality shining through Audrey’s past/experiences and thus they are different people?
• Are we going to be calling our Audrey ‘Lucy’ now? I mean it’ll be weird to have the main character get a name change like that during the series but if the ‘real’ Audrey is sticking around than it’d probably be nice to differentiate between them. (And I want her to stick around because it will be so interesting!) Is Lucy/Audrey’s amnesia her own doing, an accident or did someone do it to her (like her boss Agent Howard)? I am very intrigued.
• The mystery of the whole situation remains intriguing as well and I like the addition of the conspiracy. The Reverend’s disdain when he said “your kind” to Nathan was a bit weird though since he appears to have been a close friend of Max’s. I’m assuming the reverend is part of the tattoo conspiracy.
• I always assumed all the ‘troubled’ were like mutants but for the first time I’m wondering it maybe it’s something more – like aliens or more likely a separate species from humans that have evolved parallel on Earth.
• The new look at Vince as someone who is actually dangerous was unexpected but pretty cool. I can’t wait to see more about him and his brother.
• Does the shaking of the Chief’s remains mean that he could reform?
• I really liked the Julia/Audrey scene, though it was far too short, and the sense of them being really good friends that permeated the whole thing. Now if we can just see those moments of friendship.
• I liked the Nathan/Audrey interactions especially the scene between them after he learned the truth about the Chief and she refused to let him stop acknowledging the Chief as his dad.
• When Audrey told Nathan that it was his job now to become the sheriff I was half expecting and really, really wanted Nathan to say “No, it’s yours.” That would have been fabulous.
• I am happy that she knows that he can feel her touch and that he knows that she was Lucy. I want them to trust each other with their secrets.
Hellcats 1x06 ‘Ragged Old Flag’
This was actually a really good episode.
• I loved the girls in this. Marti/Savannah were great especially with this: “I chose you over lawyering. You’re a good friend.” ♥ I love Marti/Savannah.
• We got some excellent Savannah/Alice scenes. I loved them backing each other. I loved Alice slapping Savannah’s ass and her grin at Savannah’s “don’t ever do that again”. More than ever Alice really felt like a part of the team and not an outsider and I really like that. I like how she is getting dimensions and isn’t just the bitch trying to make trouble anymore.
• I loved Marti and Alice being the superstars of the Hellcats football team but I wish that they’d actually gotten some interaction.
• While it was nice that they won it was a bit unbelievable considering how hard it was pushed that the volleyball girls were awesome. And the idea that the girls only had a chance of winning after Marti arrived kind of annoyed me. I do love that it was Savannah who got to win the game for the team.
• A large reason that this was such an enjoyable episode is because a lot of the people that annoy me or I don’t care about were unexpectedly okay. I’ve mostly disliked Red since his first appearance but somehow in this episode he was almost likable. His scenes with Vanessa and Lewis were pretty enjoyable. I liked Alice’s football boyfriend, Jake (I think) a lot more. He and Alice were even kind of adorable this episode. Who knew? I did not miss Dan at all. Vanessa who is so boring to me... remained mainly boring but I didn’t dislike her scenes so that’s good.
• One issue I did have was that as soon as Carol threw the ball at Alice Vanessa should have turned on her instead of waiting for Alice to confront Carol. I mean she’s the ‘adult’ and the teacher so shouldn’t she have been more involved? It just came off weird.
• The final Marti/Lewis talk was really nice though I was not expecting the kiss. After how they ended their almost attempt at dating I figured that TPTB weren’t going to go there for awhile. I’m not complaining.
• Volleyball player Lindsey looked really into the cheerleading both at the beginning and at the end. I wonder if there could be an upcoming storyline about her wanting to join the team?
