Fringe & Bones Thoughts

South America 12/12 (4:24).
North America 23/23.
Europe 47/47.
Africa 53/53 (Yay!).
Asia 48/48.
Oceania 11/14 – I missed Tonga (again), Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
World 186/195 – This map is actually kind of useless because names become so much and so big that it completely obscures the map and it’s really hard to see what I’ve missed. Some I miss because my mind blanks but most I miss because I can’t see anything but a sea of names all over the place.
Bones 6x04 ‘The Body and the Bounty’: I enjoyed this episode much more then the last one. In fact it’s my favourite of the season. It just felt like the Bones I love. The characters and character interactions worked better. I loved the entire before credits scene so much. Brennan and Booth’s conversation made me laugh, I loved Cam’s reactions especially the last one and they just felt spot on characterization-wise. Also “I always catch my man.” / “I’m a woman.” Hee. I don’t know who I’d bet on.
Fringe 3x04 ‘Do Shapeshifters Dream of Electric Sheep?’
I enjoyed this episode but I found it a lot less satisfying than the previous one. I’m having a hard time with Red Olivia actually fooling everyone into believing that she’s Blue Olivia and I think that’s making the Blue universe stories less interesting for me. The longer it drags out the more issues I’m having with it.
• A huge problem I am having with our/blue universe is that no one has realised that Red Olivia isn’t their Olivia, especially with Peter. Red Olivia is just so different from Blue Olivia and it keeps sticking out to me at different times so I don’t know how any of they are missing it. For example, when she told Walter that they should get some air the way she said it and the little smile she had on her face – it just wasn’t ‘our’ Olivia. I really, really, want it to be revealed that Peter has known the truth about Olivia all along and has been playing her and/or keeping it to himself for some reason. Like how John knew the truth about Riley on TSCC (spoilers for S2). That reveal was awesome – it made you have to re-think everything that had happened before and it suddenly made John badass. But I’m increasingly sceptical that the show is going that route. I just really don’t know what to think.
I mean in this episode we get this following monologue from Peter to Olivia:
“Maybe she did notice. She just made excuses for herself not to have to deal with it. Or she came up with ways to explain it to herself. Kind of like I’ve been doing with you. ... With all the little differences ever since you got back from the other side. You did tell me that your experiences on the other side changed you but since we got back it’s like... (smiles) it’s like you’re a completely different person. You seem less burdened; you’re more patient with Walter. Don’t get me wrong I like it, the change is good. But... (smiles) it’s different.”
My first reaction was: ‘Um. What?’ I really don’t know what to do with that. At first I thought he knew the truth about her and was confronting her and I was getting excited and wide-eyed but... that’s not what happened. I actually had to rewind and re-watch that scene several times and I still don’t know what the hell is going on. When taken as a whole he certainly seems to still be completely taken in by her deception. The fact that at the end of the episode he sleeps with her seems to confirm that. Still... I guess I just really don’t like that he hasn’t figured it out. I want to believe that he knows. That for some reason he’s playing a long game with her. Because if he’s not than we’re left with not only him not realising she was replaced with a counterpart but now we also have: “I like it, change is good” He likes the changes in Olivia? Thus, he prefers this Olivia? I mean it’s certainly a very unexpected twist if the show is going to go the Peter/Red Olivia route instead of Peter/Blue Olivia but I can’t say that it’s a twist I really like. It feels wrong. And not just because he doesn’t know who she really is but because she isn’t the Olivia he’s spent two seasons creating a partnership and friendship with.
• The casual way Olivia brings up Rachel’s name has me wondering if Red Olivia has met her sister and niece yet and thus we didn’t get to see it? I certainly hope not. I think that Red Olivia meeting the sister who died and the niece she never got to meet is going to be a pivotal moment and I want to see it.
• It’s too bad Newton is dead because I liked him as a bad guy. I was surprised that he was a shape-shifter. Did we know that? I liked how the show delved into the shape-shifters and how over time they developed real emotions. I hope that this comes into play at a later date.
• I’m going to miss the Harvard lab if Walter is going to be moving to Massive Dynamic permanently. Is Gene going to be moving as well?
