Geography: I didn’t make a post on Saturday but I did do the maps and for the first time I got 100% on all of them. I’ve done the maps every day since and every time I’ve finished them all. Well except the World one – I still always miss some. But basically I have the names (and locations) of every country down and it happened far quicker than I thought it would to be honest. I'm very pleased.

I find this clip from the movie The Cement Garden very interesting and actually kind of hypnotic. I think it’s the actress and her voice. I’ve watched it over several times now.

Anyway what she says in the clip is so true: “Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short, wear shirts and boots. ‘Cause it’s ok to be a boy. But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading. Cause you think that being a girl is degrading.” I've never thought of it exactly like that but that's kind of true, isn't it? You see this in the dismissal of ‘girly’ things as somehow less (dolls, makeup, pink), in the phrase ‘you run like a girl’, in the way that a man doing anything stereotyped as female/feminine gets derision [stay at home dad, being a nurse, getting mani/pedis, sometimes being too ‘emotional’ ie: crying (because male emotion is anger which is okay (as long as it’s a man doing it, if a woman is she’s too emotional/a bitch)], listening, caring about clothes...) I just loved this quote and it stating it right out.

The Big Bang Theory 4x04 ‘The Hot Troll Deviation’

This was excellent. It’s joined the list of my favourite TBBT episodes. Sheldon/Raj fighting was awesome, Raj was hilarious, Sheldon as usual was very amusing, Penny was good, Leonard was likable and amusing, Howard wasn’t horrible or too embarrassing, Bernadette was back and there were good guest stars. Everyone was just likable and it was low on the embarrassment. And they managed to throw in a new and unexpected variation of Sheldon’s knocking on Penny’s door. “This is not over.” LOL. Oh I hope not!

Lost Girl 1x05 ‘Dead Lucky’

• I really do love Kenzi and Kenzi/Bo. I love that Kenzi is protective of Bo even when she’s mad at her. I love that she saves Bo – not only her life but she also gets Bo a favour with: “Let my balls, buddy. That was the first deal she made good on it. You want Bo to keep your little secret that’s a whole new shebang.” Now perhaps Bo would have said something similar instead of going along with Mayer but we don’t know. Kenzi spends this episode feeling uncertain about her place in Bo’s life and her role as partner. She feels unequal and as if she isn’t necessary so I love how this episode showed over and over how Kenzi is necessary to Bo and how she contributes. The fact that she actually believed Bo when Bo bluffed about not needing/wanting her shows just how uncertain she is of their relationship. Out of everything on this show it’s their relationship I am most interested in watching as it grows and solidifies.

• I loved this: “I don’t give a rat’s ass what any of you think. Only Bo.” Aw.

• Kenzi’s “I won’t tell her how much it hurts you every time you’re together. Yeah, I noticed. But it’s worth it.” to Dyson made me go ‘worth it, hmmm? And how would you know that? Hmm’ And actually I see the non-femslashy interpretation of what she said – beyond it just meaning her understanding his view on his relationship with Bo it could also be Kenzi empathizing with having a difficult relationship with Bo (her not feeling appreciated/needed) but it being worth it in the end – but my mind still went to the femslashy place first.

• I liked the Dyson/Kenzi interactions this episode. I loved Kenzi’s “That’s why I’m no longer on Team Dyson.” and how at the end Dyson jokes about it (‘you know you want back on my team, we have t-shirts’ – it was very cute and it makes me kind of be on Team Dyson.) I liked that Kenzi’s mad at him for Bo’s sake even if Bo isn’t but that in the end they reached a sort of tentative friendship themselves. They’re kind of cute (I do not ship it though).

• I like that we’re seeing Kenzi branch out to relationships with people other. I liked the Kenzi/Hale scenes and I hope we see more of them. I like the idea of Hale taking Kenzi under his wing.

• Bo doing actual damage to Dyson by feeding on his so much is an interesting direction to take. It means that Bo can’t just feed on one person (unless there is another fae who she could feed unlimitedly from) and sort of gives the implication that she can’t be monogamous. Hmm.
