The Blacklist 4x13 Thoughts

• The main impression this episode left me with was that Dembe is 100% right to be worried about Red. It’s always disconcerting to see Red make a major mistake but I think he did so here. His choice to break Santos out of prison, and how he did it, was reckless and got his friend killed. It really appeared ill-thought out and reactive and Harold was absolutely right to yell at him about it. Red just hanging up on Harold amused me but at the same time he was just so weary and done and tired... he felt very defeated in that moment.
• Poor Santos, poor Red. It appeared that they did genuinely love each other, and Santos was loyal to the end.
• I loved the cuckoo clock Red made for Agnes and Liz.
• I loved how gung-ho Liz was about protecting Red. Their scenes were nice.
• I’m not sure about Liz’s profile here. Isabella is punishing successful people who are actually bad people by ruining their reputations... by killing a bunch of people? Her body count is pretty insane if you count in the factory fire (which I feel was definitely implied to have been caused by her.) She punished a surgeon for the death of a patient by killing 11 more and while the designer was using child labour Judith is the one who murdered them all along with the adult workers. She’s clearly a sociopath. The ASL scientist even appears to have been a genuinely good person.
• I’m also confused about what the show is doing with Liz/Tom. I don’t really understand her back and forth with his ‘job’. I can see her uncertainty and insecurity over whether he can really be happy with a normal life (fair enough and probably true) but the constant pushing is meh.
• Ressler annoyed me. I guess this was to show his growing dissatisfaction with work and Red but in this case I can’t have sympathy. Just take a couple days off, dude. His angst here was his own fault. I mean it’s not like Harold is that much of a hardass or like he was really that necessary to the case. Hell, take a sick day if needed.
