Healer Episodes 5 & 6 Thoughts
Apr. 8th, 2017 03:15 pmEpisode 5
+ Some moments I really liked: Young-shin's smile when 'Bong-soo' said he was worried about her, Jung-hoo's reaction to Young-shin fixing up his hand, Jung-hoo's reaction to seeing the potato side that Young-shin (particularly great), Young-shin's boss telling her to continue going after her story, Yeon-hee continuing to be a quiet part of the story, that moment when Jung-hoo weighed protect his identity with protecting Young-shin and she won out.
+ The fact that Jung-hoo's mentor (and former Healer!) was on of the 1980 group of friends makes Jung-hoo being involved in everything suddenly no longer seem like a coincidence which I really like.
+ I continue to like Young-shin. I keep veering between face-palming [ignoring the cop to call out for Bong-soo, her indecisiveness when they drove up to President Hwang's home, the fact that she was reckless enough to confront him on her own without a plan] but also being impressed with her [standing up to Hwang, later calling him trash to his face even though she's terrified, her continuing to take her position of looking after Bong-soo very seriously].
Episode 6
+ The Young-shin/'Bong-soo' phone call was so good. I love that he was in his normal spot spying on her and then moved closer (far too close!) so that he could see her face as they talked. I liked his reaction to her confessing her crush on Moon-ho but his expression when she revealed her crush on the Healer was delightful. He had no idea how to react to that and it was sooo good. On the one hand it's rather embarrassing for poor Young-shin but on the other this is going to make the up-coming identity and love triangle shenanigans all the more fun. I am so excited for jealous Jung-hoo and his expression at the end episode is an excellent start. Someone's not happy!
+ Also Young-shin telling 'Bong-soo' that it was like they were sisters and his reaction was the perfect end to that scene.
+ Moon-ho following up quitting his job by buying SomeDay Newspaper and deciding to mentor Young-shin was excellent. I was actually really unsure about him after his phone call with Young-shin. I couldn't read him. So what he did ended up a nice surprise.
+ So Moon-sik is involved in a lot of shady and dark shit but at the same time he also very clearly deeply loves his wife (and also his younger brother.) Is he the bad guy he seems or is there something else going on? Based on his conversation with Moon-ho he absolutely had something to do with Ji-an's abandonment and perhaps even with Gil-han's death, seemingly so he could have Myung-hee, and was unapologetic about it. So was his explanation to Myung-hee about his quest for power a lie or a justification? Does he he think he is doing the right thing for the bigger picture? I'm really curious about him and what exactly happened in 1992.
+ I really like how understanding Young-shin is of Bong-soo's reaction to violence and how he keeps disappearing on her. No anger at all, just sympathy and understanding.
+ I absolutely don't blame poor Min-jae for breaking up with Moon-ho based on his response to her proposal. That was cold!
+ Sang-soo's random giggling fit when Jung-hoo searched him for his phone really amused me. I wonder if he's going to become a reluctant ally for our heroes?
