The 100 4x09 Thoughts

Good episode. Review written as I watched.
+ Why would they leave potentially dying-by-brain Raven alone without a doctor? She's already had one seizure! And as Murphy says not even Luna is there to sooth her. Okay, they need tech and Raven is the best to collect it but in that case Jackson should have been left behind too. There was no reason that he needed to leave.
+ I am loving Murphy and Raven's interactions this season. I loved his semi-hidden worry for her.
+ "Not much point in fighting at the end of the world." That's one of the most sensible things ever said on this show so point to Ilian. This of course means we are in for a ton of fighting! Octavia will be happy, she is hating farming so much lol.
+ Okay I would definitely be down for Jackson/Miller. Make it happen show!
+ "Roan is my friend. Our ally." I love that she thinks of him as 'friend' first. So much love that she tried to warn him.
+ Yay Echo! Who would have guess I'd be saying that. Her loyalty to Roan is great and honestly she's proving herself to be really competent and I like that in a person.
+ Okay, I love the way Clarke says "I just found out" as if he's being ridiculous to even ask and the look she gives him when he pulls the knife is this incredulous 'seriously, dude' that it delights me a bit. It's such a small exchange but I loved it. Also his: "Thanks for trying to warn me."
+ Once again Clarke using her words to manipulate a situation to her advantage which is basically one of my favourite things about her.
+ Clarke and Roan scheming and planning together is also one of my favourite things ever. Honestly I really love them.
+ "If anyone can convince mortal enemies to move in together... it's you." ♥ The look he gave her when he paused there - wow. He is so taken by her it's ridiculous. He just believes in her so damn much. I adore it and I want more. Fingers crossed he isn't killed off.
+ Poor Clarke she just never gets a break. Once again she's being forced into the hot seat of saving the day and she doesn't seem all that enthusiastic about it.
+ Okay, my problem with these alliances is they keep being all or nothing. There are more than two Grounder clans so where are all the rest of the clans in these decisions and alliances? Why can Skaikru apparently be allied with only one of them at a time?
+ Oh, poor Harper, poor Monty.
+ Jasper leading a death cult, wtf? Ugh. Of course he is. Why is him being tolerable/likeable always immediately followed by something that makes me so done with him? Yet at the same time I can't help but think 'okay then'. I mean the bunker only has a certain amount of room and beyond Skaikru there are a lot of different Grounders of various Clans who are going to want in too. There are going to be a ton of people who will want, and would fight for, their spot in the bunker. As far as the salvation of the human race a random Grounder instead of one of Skaikru would be just as good (if not better re: the genetic pool.)
So I guess my point is I'm 'ugh Jasper' but I can also understand where those people are coming from - my general annoyance with Jasper is getting in my way of me not being annoyed with him but I do feel so much sympathy for Harper - and I think in the end people who want to live should get a place in the bunker instead of trying to force those who don't want to. Plus, well it's their choice. They're not children, they know what they're doing and I don't actually think anyone has a right to override that.
That said I am also mad in general for Monty to have both Jasper and Harper make this choice and what it's doing to him. He killed his mother a couple months ago (twice!) and now his best friend and girlfriend have made a pact to commit suicide. Monty needs to be in a better world, yeesh.
+ "You don't want to be the good little soldier always doing what Clarke tells you to do." Ouch. I really wish this storyline on the island had included some actual Clarke/Raven interaction. They haven't really had anything significant since probably season 2 and I miss them so much. I'm also not sure how to take this - is this how Raven really feels (and I do think there is definitely some resentment towards Clarke) or is this more the influence of Becca/the chip on her mind (she sounds a lot like Chip!Raven). Either way I just want some interaction between the two.
+ Ugh, Raven's hallucinations of Becca and Becca's doom and gloom tempting is freaking me out. Stoooop it show. Don't listen to the crazy voice in your head Raven! I mean I 100% get it because losing my mind is one of my biggest fears and for someone who's intelligence and drive is such an integral part of her that potential fate is terrifying but going out in a blaze of glory might not be the answer here! There's got to still be hope. I refuse to accept anything else.
+ Also freaking me out a little: the way Emori watches Raven. Emori is way too ruthless and scheming to be staring at her like that.
+ "Make me Commander." Okay, I loved this scene (though seriously people, stop slicing across your palms!) and Clarke thinking and scheming and plotting to save everyone is the best as always but I'm mostly left with one question: where the hell is Luna? If anyone should be Commander it's Luna. She's a Grounder, she's from Lexa's natblinda group, and tbh I adore Clarke but Luna is definitely the better choice of leader in this situation. I mean, granted, Luna doesn't want to be leader but Clarke should at least try to convince her first before putting herself forward. I want Commander Luna!
+ "You sent them down to die. The difference now is that they have a choice." - Bellamy. I loved this. And I loved his response to Monty bring up Octavia being that he would say goodbye. This is such a change from season one, even from last season.
+ ... Yeah, I didn't think farm life was going to help Octavia with her rage issues.
+ Roan shaking his head as Gaia first starts speaking made me laugh. I have to admit I'm a little surprised that Roan put a stop to the ceremony and was so vehement about it. He greatly admires Clarke and he knows that she is on his side and if given the power would save (some) of his people too. But he seemed genuinely mad about what she was going to do which makes me think that he actually is a believer in the Grounder faith which I wasn't expecting. I also found his censure of "because you think we're savages" a bit out of the left field.
+ I'm actually glad that Clarke didn't become Commander. I would love for her to get the Flame some day (and then for there to be a Lexa cameo) but right now it really doesn't feel right. It's too easy and pat a solution for one, and for another Roan wasn't actually wrong. Clarke isn't a Grounder and she doesn't follow their faith.
+ Oh, thank god Monty didn't stay to die. For a second I was so worried. I'm fine with Jasper and even Harper dying since I know people are going to die but nothing had better happen to Monty. He's on my list of characters I absolutely do not want to die (Clarke, Bellamy, Raven, Monty, Murphy, Roan). That said I hope Monty staying in case anyone changes their mind means that Harper does.
+ I loved Emori's expression when she saw that Skaikru come back for them. That they didn't get abandoned like she'd known they would. For Murphy too it was great because while I don't think he truly doubted them it was good for him to know for fact that they wouldn't abandon him. It was a lovely moment especially in an episode with so little happiness.
+ I loved Jackson's expression when Miller touched his shoulder. TBH, I am already loving this so much more than I ever did Miller/Bryan.
+ The Raven/Murphy scene was beautiful and heartbreaking and the best moment of the episode. Murphy telling Raven "I'm sorry for doing this to you" was wonderful and god damn the character growth! Then Raven actually telling him it wasn't his fault was so great, and oh he needed to hear that so bad. I like that she opened up to him and their dark jokes (floated/cockroaches) and then that beautiful hug (!!!!) and Murphy's expression as he walked away from hallucinating Raven. It was all perfect. I loved everything about it and it made me cry.
+ But I still refuse to accept that Raven will die. Lalalalalala, not happening, can't hear you, lalalala. What I'm hoping is that this whole Raven storyline is Raven's subconscious working based on information she hasn't consciously put together on some sort of plan that will either save herself and possible will save the day.
+ I really liked that little moment between Murphy and Emori as they were leaving - his little smile when he saw her waiting and her returning smile as he joined her. Aww.
+ I'm really annoyed that we didn't get Clarke and Bellamy's reunion.
+ One thing I love about Clarke and Bellamy is how when one of them is losing hope/direction the other is there to pick up the slack. They balance each other so well.
+ Yes, Octavia! Making a perfectly timed entrance to save the day (well her people).
+ I am not liking this whole fight to the death situation. Okay, wait, that's a lie I love it. This is going to be awesome. What I don't like is the fact that characters I really like or am attached to are going to be fighting each other to the death. I'm not sure who is all going to be involved but I imagine that along with Octavia both Roan and Indra will be representing their tribes :( I super don't want Roan to die (and he seems the most expendable) and I don't want to watch Octavia vs Indra because it will make me sad.
Every other attempt at salvation has seen the plan destroyed so I feel like it's only fair for this one to go sideways somehow too. Like, there can be some fighting and random death and then something interrupts before any of the important characters can bite it. My vote is Luna shows up, rolls her eyes in exasperation of the stupidity of everyone else, takes the Flame and then as Commander tells them to cut it out.
