Switched at Birth 1x04 & 1x05 Thoughts

iaria1x04 ‘Dance Amongst Daggers’
• Of the various fights the Bay/Daphne one was the most supported and interesting. I wonder if Daphne will demand that Bay stop seeing Ty? Probably not, that doesn’t see like her.
• Liam and Daphne have either moved quickly or there’s been a time jump since the last episode. I do like them. I thought they were adorable this episode. The zombie talk at the beginning made me smile and I like how quickly and happily he introduced her as his girlfriend. But I’m actually kind of glad that they’ve broken up for the moment – a scene that was well done – because it’ll give their relationship a little more... tension. I’ll be happy with them playing Romeo and Juliet for a couple episodes.
• The way Kathryn said “you and your mother” to Daphne so easily felt a little weird. It had to be a bizarre moment for her.
• I really liked Kathryn’s speech deviation after her talk with Daphne.
• The name ‘Cameron’ could be either male or female and I suddenly found myself hoping that Melody was breaking up with her girlfriend. Alas no.
• I caught chemistry between Melody and John in their previous interactions. Enough that it set off a ‘warning: affair potential!’ alert which I was really hoping would prove false. John and Kathryn seem to have a really great relationship but I still worried. This episode kind of addressed that by having Kathryn worry about it and Regina warn Melody off and while I don’t see it happening any time soon I’m still a little worried about it.
• So its canon then that Emmett is in love with Daphne. It was obvious he was jealous of Liam and that he did not want Daphne dating him but those could have also been simply possessiveness of his BFF + his dislike of hearing people.
• I wonder if the party is going to cause Emmett to start a journey to getting more involved with hearing people – enjoying his time in the band, the fact that he couldn’t understand the girl who was impressed, Daphne’s own attachments in the hearing world – or if it’s just going to cause him to cling harder to his dislike?
• I find it curious that Emmett is so completely against hearing people and interacting with them, that he considers them ‘other’, and yet appears to have grown up with Regina as an honorary aunt to him. He clearly cared for her but despite her knowing how to sign she is a hearing person. How does he reconcile that?
• If Daphne and Ty are close enough that she thinks of him as an older brother it would be nice to actually see their close friendship or for them to interact in any way. They’ve thus far only had the one short exchange when Daphne introduced him to Bay.
• It’s been four episodes now and yet none of the Kennish’s are trying to learn sign language. That seems a little weird to me. Kathryn seems like the type of person to get super involved in it.
1x05 'Dogs Playing Poker'
• I really wish that the show hadn’t divorced Ty so much from the Vasquez’s. We’ve heard that he’s like family but we’ve never gotten to see it and instead his entire story has been all about his relationship with Bay. If we had gotten to see their relationship his goodbye scene with them would have had so much more emotion. But I did like his goodbye with Daphne.
• I am surprised he joined the army. Why is the show getting rid of Ty so quickly?
• With all the talk about Bay and sex I was expecting it to come up that she’d already lost her virginity. I was pretty positive she had – the stuff about Liam, how easily she was going to do it with Ty – but then during her talk with Regina suddenly I wasn’t so sure. So is Bay a virgin or not?
• Daphne and Emmett made up far quicker than I was expecting. Actually Daphne and Bay did as well. She really doesn’t hold grudges does she?
