Supergirl 2x17 - 2x20 Thoughts

iaria2x17 'Distant Sun'
+ I’m really not happy with what this show is doing with James and James/Kara. When Mon-El threw him into a car Kara had no reaction, wasn’t worried at all about him! Didn't even check on him afterwards. A simple ‘James!’ isn’t too much to ask, right? And then he disappears from the episode. It's a little mind-boggling.
2x18 'Ace Reporter'
I liked it.
+ Kara/Lena were delightful. Basically every scene with them was wonderful, particularly their last scene, and the whole episode was super shippy. I really love how mutually supportive they are and Kara being there for Lena and Lena's appreciation of her.
Kara was practically gushing about how much she cares for Lena - "I always have your back." and "You're not going to lose me." and "I'll always be your friend. And I'll always protect you. I promise." ♥ But at the same time I find myself very worried that this is foreshadowing for everything going wrong.
+ "Oh, I wouldn't know. I've never stood behind a man." Lena's confrontation with Beth was great and I loved her taking Beth out herself.
+ The complete disappearance of the DEO/Alex/J'onn from the episode was weird especially after the first whistleblower was murdered. Why wouldn't Kara have gone to the DEO?
+ I liked poor Jack and he and Lena were actually really sweet.
2x19 'Alex'
I liked this one too.
+ Alex was amazing and badass. Cutting out her tracker and using it to contact the DEO, turning her coat into a flotation device, fighting non-stop to save herself. I loved Alex telling Kara that under no circumstances was she to give in because Supergirl was bigger than her.
+ I love that in the end Kara saved Alex by talking to Peter and convincing him to help her (and that by doing so he would be saving his son, the one good thing he has done.) It was a great moment.
+ I liked how this episode forced Kara to confront that she's no longer the only/most important person in Alex's life. Maggie and J'onn both love her too. That said I have to admit that I did think devoted sister did in fact trump girlfriend of a couple months.
+ On the Maggie vs Supergirl debate, I thought both had good points but was mostly on Maggie's side. In everyday crime at the very least Supergirl could check in with police especially considering the property damage incurred. Also her injuring the robbers that bad speaks to a lack of control that she should really work on. I hope the show revisits this.
+ Lena/Rhea are great together. Really interested to see where things go with them.
2x20 'City of Lost Children'
+ For the first time this season I actually enjoyed James's Guardian plot. The show should have done a better job setting up people being afraid/wary of Guardian and James struggling with that but I like where they went with it here. I'm hoping that James realising that he can help by connecting to individuals and using his words, even more than by trying to be a superhero, will lead him to change direction and give up being a vigilante. The show gave him Cat's role and then immediately ignored it to throw him into superhero shenanigans. It lead to some great James/Wynn friendship but wasn't great for James as a character. I want to see him running CatCo and making a difference that way.
+ All of the James/Marcus interactions were lovely and I especially loved their first scene.
+ Once again I find myself shipping the crap out of James/Clark. Clark was the first person that James let in and trusted! It makes the complete lack of anything during Clark's appearance on the show all the more frustrating and confusing.
+ The Lena/Rhea scenes were great. Rhea's pep talks were actually pretty good. Lena fell for her pretty words and attention perhaps a little too easily but I was fine with it overall considering what a large presence Lillian and Lena's relationship with her had this season. Also I just really enjoy them together.
+ I liked how the two plotlines came together.
