The Defenders
Sep. 30th, 2017 10:50 amI actually enjoyed it which surprised me a little.
+ The main part of my enjoyment was Jessica who was fabulous and absolutely Jessica thought-out. She was amazing. Sarcastic and caustic but still deeply caring, hilarious and full of more common sense than any of the others. Most of my favourite scenes involved her.
+ I loved Jessica going up by elevator as Midland Circle while Matt engaged in some stairwell parkour with her scarf. I love that it took exactly the same amount of time and her reaction to him.
+ Possibly the biggest badass moment of the series was Jessica holding up the elevator and saving Luke and Danny.
+ I loved Jessica's scenes with Malcolm and Trish even though there weren’t many. Malcolm and her in particular made me really happy because their relationship as portrayed here was everything I wanted from and for them post JJ series. The trailer with him in danger made me really worried for him so this was an exciting development. The only misstep for me was the director panning away on the Jessica/Malcolm hug which left me super annoyed. :( I wanted to see that hug!
+ The surprise standout though was Jessica/Matt, my favourite (non JJ show related) relationship of this series. They were so good together! They were snarky and weirdly adorable. She has no time for his nonsense, he finds her really amusing (she makes him laugh!) They work really well as a team. Now I just want them to be crime fighting partners forever. They were the best.
+ I liked Luke and Luke/Jessica more in this series and their goodbye was nice.
+ Danny was okay but really whiney. I did like his growing friendship with Luke. Still not interested in watching either of their series.
+ Matt I liked a lot more and was more interested in but I also doubt I’ll bother watching his series either. I did like his relationship with Elektra and him choosing to die with her in the dragon skeleton was messed up romantic enough that I’m shipping it. The scene where Elektra goes to his apartment and sleeps in his bed was lovely and beautifully shot. I also love the way she says his name.
+ Weaver’s Alexandra was a pretty good villain and I loved her dark mentorship of Elektra. The twist with them was good but I think I'd have rather kept Alexandra around and seen more of what exactly her plan was.
+ Part of why Elektra taking over as Big Bad didn't entirely work is because I'm even less clear about where she stands. She's afraid of death, okay. She killed Alexandra because she didn't want a master? Or was it that she regained her memories? What even is the Black Sky and why was it so important and special?
+ I like the trio of Colleen, Claire and Misty. Their Hand fight was good and I liked Claire and Colleen's discussion on heroes.
