The Blacklist 5x02 & 5x03 Thoughts
Oct. 11th, 2017 10:04 pm5x02 ‘Greyson Blaise’ (No. 37)
It was pretty fun considering how so much of it falls apart with only a little thought.
+ The scene where Liz teases Red over his pumpkin loaner shirt was adorable. I loved her amusement and that she doesn’t even really try to hide it. I loved the way Red said “His wife says it’s Tuscan sunset” in this very flat defensive tone, so unlike how he usually speaks, and his clear irritation. Cute, cute scene. Overall, I enjoyed Red and Liz a lot.
+ Dembe cooking as an intimidation tactic was great.
+ ‘Colleen Williams’. NO. ): Enough already show. I will never again buy Liz undercover but it sure as hell isn’t believable when the object of her deception already knows who Red is! If he knows Red I’m sure he noticed that time a couple years ago when he went on the run with an FBI agent and possible Russian spy who helped him bring down an international criminal cabal. I am very annoyed by this.
+ Also annoyed with the show continuing to have Red keep Liz in the dark about parts of his plans for no goddamn reason. It’s not even about either of their pasts and the secrets therein! The show wants their sneaky reveals midway/at the end but by continuing to have Red keep Liz in the dark it’s really undermining their relationship and making me irritated with Red. The show can have the characters in the know while still keeping it a secret from the audience, at least some of the time, and it would work so much better. All that said, I am liking Liz’s reactions and that she letting herself enjoy Red’s nonsense and not getting sucked into her past spirals of anger at him for keeping her in the dark. This Liz is much more fun to watch even if the other made more sense.
+ There is absolutely no way I buy a) that Dembe wouldn’t notice that the closet doors were suddenly closed, and b) that Red would kill Dennison without getting the oh so important information he needed.
+ I was glad to see that Nick survived but I find him agreeing to help again inexplicable. 'For Liz' is not a reasonable reason for getting involved again.
+ The Numbers of the two Blacklister’s this season seem undeservedly high.
5x03 'Miss Rebecca Thrall' (No. 76)
Meh.
+ I loved Ressler telling the truth because he knew that he wouldn't be believed. At the same time a part of him must be hoping that Liz realises that something is wrong.
+ Red offering his help at the end was pointed enough that at the very least he suspects the truth about Hitchens. While Ressler's distaste for Red and what he does has never gone away I am surprised that he shot down Red's offer of help so quickly. The devil you know and all that.
+ I enjoyed the Red/Tom interactions.
+ Red's secret plans worked much better in this episode. Of course he wouldn't tell Tom anything. I loved him leaving Tom as collateral with the gun runner and Tom's reaction.
+ It's always great to see Glen. I loved that he took pity on Red because he feels bad about Red's downfall and him continuing to show his loyalty to Red. The final scene was great - Glen annoys the crap out of Red (love it!) but that moment when Red opened Glen's beer for him and toasted showed how much he also appreciates Glen.
