Episodes 11 & 12

I watched to final two episodes and really enjoyed them.

- The series ended in a much happier place than I was expecting it to. But I was confused about the fate some of the puella magi. Like Sayaka, for instance. When she disappeared from the theatre with Madoka what happened to her? Did she die/cease to exist (because she had been a witch by the end)? Did she just continue her life as a normal person? What about the other girls? We only see Homura fighting at the end and I wish we could have seen the other three fighting the demons with her. Were the other girls normal humans again?

- I was a bit disappointed with the lack of interaction between all the girls in the final. I wanted a see the five of them interacting and fighting together again.

- We got tons of was Homura/Madoka interaction and slashiness. I loved it. The final two episodes were really more about the two of them and their love for each other than anyone else. I loved that Homura was the only one left after Madoka erased existence and was with her in the void. I love that she remembers Madoka in the new universe and fights for her (and wears her ribbon and uses her bow weapon) and that Madoka is right there with her as her wings (which was awesome).

- I liked that we got a return of Madoka’s mom and their relationship. I did have a bit of ‘wha’ reaction when her mom just let her go off, alone, into a storm, but I loved how her mother trusted her. I also loved the mom/Homura scene at the end. I like the idea of Homura becoming like a surrogate daughter to the family.

- I love that a) there is an actual reason the Madoka has so much power and it’s not just because she is ‘special’, and b) that she has that power because of Homura and her repeated attempts to save Madoka’s life. God, poor Homura. Of course that’s how it would work out. When Kyubey congratulated her on creating the greatest witch I wanted her to shoot him again.

- Kyubey continued his streak of being very disturbing. His entire scene where he explained things to Madoka was very creepy especially him equivocating humans to cattle (and then saying how nice they are to make deals with humans instead of just using them) and his assertion that ‘emotions are a mental disorder’. That explains so much about his species.

- I don’t think the full truth about Homura’s plight really hit me until Kyubey told Madoka “She will fight even if it’s hopeless.” Homura can only survive as long as she holds onto the hope that she can save Madoka but with every timeline her continued failure makes it harder and harder to bear and yet if she does lose hope her soul gem will turn into a grief seed and she’ll become a witch. She literally can never give up – never stop fighting for Madoka, never stop re-writing time – because if she does, even for a moment, she’ll become what she fights. Poor Homura.

- I also loved “I will destroy the rules that prevent that. I will change them.” ♥ I love that Madoka – who more than anyone else has been helpless, the one to be protected, the one who the others make decisions for – saves every puella magi in the end by taking a hold of her own life and decisions and refused to accept other’s limitations on her. That was just amazing.
