8x03 ‘It’s a Party’

This was a really great challenge and the results were much more impressive than usual. I felt like more than three of them hit it out of the park, no one was completely awful gross, and overall the quality was high.

Christopher – B. Not bad. It looks like fabric. (Yes)

Michael – C-. It doesn’t work for me, the silver top doesn’t look put together well and the skirt is eh. (No)

Andy – A+. Gorgeous. Perfectly put together - the earrings and hair and glove were perfect. (Yes)

AJ – C-. It looks like a bunch of crap just stuck together. It's too much. (No)

Ivy – A+. Moves perfect, is beautiful, looks like fabric, nice style. (Yes)

Michael C – A+. Stunning, stands out, moves nice, so pretty. I want to look at the detail. (Yes)

Peach – B+. It’s very cute and wearable. I like the pink tissue and zebra skirt. The top is a bit plain but I suppose it goes well with a busier skirt. (Yes)

Gretchen – B. Nice, looks like an outfit. The colour of the boots don’t fit, though the length does. (Yes)

Mondo – B+. Cute! I love the skirt, the top is not bad. (Yes)

Casanova – C. The back ruffles are gorgeous but the front is a big chaotic mess with randomly placed bits of colour. (No)

Kristin – B-. I don’t actually know! It’s kind of cute, kind of not. It’s confusing me. Love the colour. I just don’t know. (Yes, qualified)

April – A-. The skirt is fairly eh to me but the top portion of the dress is so cool. I want to keep looking at it. So pretty. I like how it merges. (Yes)

Sarah – C. The colour nice and there’s something I could like about it but the blue parts look like after thoughts added to a blah grey dress. (No)

Valerie – A. Very pretty! Looks very neat, love the layers. (Yes)

I loved: Andy, Ivy, Michael C, Peach, April, Valerie.
I was middle ground about: Christopher, Gretchen, Mondo, Kristin.
I didn’t like: Michael, AJ, Casanova, Sarah.

My bottom three would be – Michael, AJ, Casanova (because he used fabric substitutes) and I would vote out... hmm, Michael or AJ, I think.

My top three would be – (so hard to pick!) Andy, Michael C, April and I would pick Andy to win. But it was so ridiculously hard to narrow it down! Those top six were all so well done and if any of them won I wouldn’t be upset, though I do think that the three I narrowed it down too are the best.

- I was really afraid for a bit there that Gretchen would win this challenge and I totally did not think hers was better than Andy’s and that would have really annoyed me. I was surprised to realise just how irritated I’d be if she won but I just don’t think it would have been deserved this time.

Between Casanova and Sarah I definitely thought Casanova should go but was thinking that it was not going to go that way. Alas I was right and it’s too bad. Still her dress was pretty bad so it’s not like it wasn’t deserved. I guess I just really feel like Sarah is a better designer than Casanova.

8x04 ‘Hat’s Off to You’

My favourite hat by far was Peach’s black/white feathered looking one but I also loved the ones AJ, Casanova and Mondo had.

For Kristin’s dress I found myself thinking of something that I think would go really well with her orchid hat. When she seemed really confused about what to do with her orchid hat and this idea just hit me – she should have her model done up as if she were the stem of her flower hat. It should be a long dress or a pant/top that’s green (shades of green) with maybe some vertical detail, possibly structural or flowy arms. I think that would be neat though maybe too literal.

Michael C’s dress was pretty though I’m not sure about the colour with the colour of the hat.

I’m pretty neutral about Gretchen’s outfit though I do think it goes very well with the hat.

I didn’t really like Kristin’s because it just didn’t seem very well put together. I also found the black to be a bit heavy for her hat.

Michael D’s wasn’t bad, the structure and shape of the top was great and complimented the hat very well but the material does look like cardboard.

Valerie’s was very cute, nice skirt and colour, but I’m not seeing Labyrinth in it and I wish it was more impressive in a masked ball sort of way to go with the mask.

AJ’s was okay – I liked the colour, the fabric but the tulle at the waist was unnecessary and distracting.

I don’t know that I like Andy’s shiny/satiny pink fabric being used for the whole suit but its attention grabbing and I like the collar. I think it grows on me the more I look at it.

I liked Ivy’s outfit a lot, very wearable, though I’m not sure about how well it goes with the hat. It needs some pink in it.

April’s did not really work for me and I can see the hot pants looking like a diaper criticism but the top also didn’t work for me.

I liked Christopher’s outfit, the pattern and neckline and leggings all worked, and I think it worked well with his hat.

Peach’s hat was so dynamic but the dress was very blah and they did not go together. The hat made the dress look bad. The fabric was just not a good choice for that hat.

Casanova’s was a simple black dress but I think it worked well with the hat and showed it off very well.

Mondo’s was very interesting, very different, and I don’t hate it but I wish he’d used red, to match his hat, instead of purple.

None of these outfits made me go ‘winner!’ so I’ll pick... Christopher. Or Valerie. Or Michael D. Honestly I’m pretty ‘whatever’ about it so I think most anyone picked wouldn’t bother me. For the loser... I don’t know. I was very eh about a bunch of them. I guess – April.

I was surprised when the judges hated Christopher’s look so much. I was fine with Michael C. winning and Kristin being out.
