3x15 'High School Poppycock'
+ It feels appropriate that the whole Linda/Amenadiel/Maze situation came to head in an episode about high school. I was so on Maze's side during the fight and her teary "But you were my friend." was so sad. I need Chloe or Lucifer to give her some comfort. I'm so annoyed with Linda. Her defensiveness is an understandable reaction but her realisation at the end should have happened before the affair even got started. Just talk about it like freaking adults! I do hope that Linda has to work for Maze's forgiveness and Maze gets an actual apology from her for lying and betraying her.
+ I like how Maze managed to combine helping Lucifer with torturing Linda/Amenadiel. This sort of compatence is why she's Lucifer's #2.
+ I really appreciated that little moment where Chloe brushes off her regret for the normal high school life she never had and Lucifer tells her very seriously and sincerely that it isn't ridiculous. It was lovely. Lucifer throwing a little prom dance for Chloe was also really sweet.
+ The opening Chloe/Ella scene was great. I love that they hang out. We need another girls night. It was also unexpectedly flirty between Chloe's "I'm sorry, babe" (?!) and Ella smoothing down the wig much more than she needed to and her "It looks so cute on you" parting shot.
+ Lucifer's befuddlement at Chloe's fangirling distraction amused me a lot.
3x17 'Let Pinhead Sing!'
+ There was stuff I liked about the Maze/Linda/Amenadiel storyline and some that I didn't.
The good:
- One thing I am loving about the aftermath of this situation is that Maze's hurt over everything isn't about jealousy or even Amenadiel but rather that she feels lied and betrayed by her friend. I like that the focus is on Linda and Maze's relationship.
- Despite being sad about this break-up and the way the hurt feelings and anger seem to be escalating I actually found their fight to be pretty believable. Charlotte inadvertently making things worse by trying to get Maze to admit some culpability, Linda getting defensive at Maze's lashing out and finally letting go of her own anger, Maze (a demon) doubling down on her anger, the two of them getting personal - it worked.
- The call-back to the door scene this time with Linda apologising was wonderful and sad. I loved Linda pleading that she didn't want to lose her. I loved that small moment where Maze goes to the door and gently presses her hands against it. She so badly wants to see her! "No man is worth what we had." ♥
- Linda's "I'm sorry and I miss you, Maze" and acknowledging that she messed up was nice.
The not so good:
- "So I lost Amenadiel." ... ehhh. 'Lost' has a different connotation here than dumped or left or even gave up. I realise she was connecting it to 'losing' Maze but it didn't work for me. Lost makes it sound like it wasn't her choice when instead she should have emphasised that she was choosing Maze over him.
- Linda stating her fault was 'hiding the truth', which again is true enough, feels like it's slipping over an important distinction. In this case she did hide/lie about the fact that she and Amenadiel had already slept together/started something when Maze and her had their heart-to-heart. The real issue is that she then continued that relationship, knowing Maze's feelings, having assured Maze that nothing was going on and then continued to hide the relationship. That's a bit more than simply 'hiding the truth' in my eye.
- I'm still on Maze's side and I agree with that she did nothing wrong. She was honest with her feelings! Linda clearly does feel a lot of resentment of Maze 'calling dibs' but while Maze was being selfish she was also honest and upfront and that situation called for the three of them to sit down and talk about it like adults.
- I could have done without Linda essentially calling Maze a slut.
+ I loved the Dan/Amenadiel scene complete with awesome hug and them genuinely being good friends.
+ I'm getting a bit tired of Dan being ignored, looked down on and used as the butt of jokes. It's getting to be less funny with every episode.
