The 100 5x01 Thoughts

I loved it. I thought it was one the show's strongest premieres. I'm so happy to have this show back.
Clarke
This was such a fabulous Clarke episode and it basically encapsulated everything I love about her. Her opening 20 minutes or so was my favourite part of the episode and I could happily watch an entire season of just Clarke [& Madi] surviving on Earth.
+ I loved Clarke finding and taking a piece of Lexa's throne. I don't find it super believable that it survived but I love it enough that I don't care.
+ I am so happy we got that little moment of Clarke grieving for Jasper, and with him everyone else she lost. Clarke's breakdown made me teary-eyed. I think the whole scene was beautifully done and also really necessary. Both because of her lack of reaction to his death last season and because she really needed a cathartic emotional cry after everything she's been through. I like that she took Jasper's goggles and I hope we get a scene of her giving the letter to Monty.
+ I loved that small moment of Clarke chiding herself for her little pessimistic descent into despair. I mean she's, as far as she knows, the only life left on the surface of the planet, she can't get into the bunker and doesn't know who of her remaining friends survived; she hasn't had water in 2 days and doesn't know where to find more; and after a year of constant loss and fighting is now facing 5 years of trying to survive on her own in the desolate landscape of a destroyed world... but sure, that's no reason to be fatalistic!
+ "I'm proud of you." - Clarke to Bellamy. I've loved Clarke reassuring Bellamy that he made the right choice since the trailer but this was the perfect cap to that. I hope he gets to hear it one day.
+ Clarke eating the bugs off the rover was really gross (so much ewww) but was also a great way to show just how starving and desperate she was. I love that she doesn't hesitate or even make a face at doing. She just does it because Clarke always does what she has to.
+ "You think you can kill me? Have at it." - Clarke ♥
+ The beginning of Clarke and Madi's relationship took me completely by surprise but I loved it. I was expecting Clarke to rescue a scared little girl and instead we got a survivor willing to do what it takes just like Clarke. Madi luring Clarke into the bear trap and then scream tackling her with a knife was the best. I also just really love that their story isn't Clarke coming in and saving Madi but rather two survivors who could have done fine alone coming together from their shared desire not to be alone.
+ Clarke sewing herself up like the badass she is.
+ I love how at the beginning Madi is very much framed as one of those horror movie kids. That shot of her looking in the window was super creepy, good job show.
+ Clarke drawing again made me so happy. I really want to see pictures in the background of all our lost characters (especially Wells, Lexa, Roan). I love that it was Clarke drawing a picture of Madi that was the first step to winning Madi over. I love that Madi kept that drawing in her hole. Though... how many times has she been in there in the last six years if there was literally no other person on the surface of the Earth?
+ Clarke shooting the second prisoner... yeah, that felt inevitable. It was the wrong choice, imo, but I 100% understand why she did it. And while I don't agree with it I also don't know that it would have made a substantial difference in how Clarke vs Eligius would go? They still want Eden, think it's theirs by right and they're still all hardened criminals. That said, Trikru also attacked in the pilot in a very similar way and I hope that Clarke ends up realising that she is playing out her own landing on Earth but from the other side and it maybe changes how she decides to approach things going forward.
+ I'm also hoping that Madi's innocence/trust/naivety/belief in good maybe brings some of that back to Clarke.
+ I am so curious about what exactly Clarke told Madi about everything that happened. It's clear she went a more fairytale route versus a historical one. What things did she leave out? Did she tell Madi she was Wanheda? (That would be a fun reveal if she didn't.) Fingers crossed for more flashbacks of Clarke telling Madi about everyone (perhaps inter-cut with Madi dealing with the reality of those people from her stories.)
+ I wonder if Clarke told Madi about Octavia growing up under the floor after learning about Madi's life in her bolt hole and that's what began Madi's hero worship of her? I really like that the show gave Madi such a similar beginning to Octavia's, and how much it just makes sense.
+ I like how the show used Clarke's radio calls to the Ark as a narrative device to give us insight into Clarke's emotions and journey. I hope it shows up again.
+ Loved the many parallels (and call-backs) to previous episodes. Especially Clarke finding the Shallow Valley clan's bodies = Clarke walking into the irradiated Mount Weather dining room full of bodies, the paralleling of Clarke/Madi to Bellamy/Octavia, and Clarke/Charmaine's "we're not alone".
+ I love the transition between Clarke looking up and wondering if Bellamy/the others are up there to Bellamy looking down at Eden, and unknowingly Clarke.
+ I wasn't a fan of how Clarke kept calling out to the Grounder child in English. It makes no sense. There is no reason to think Madi would know English and Clarke herself speaks perfect Trigedasleng. I also would have preferred if Clarke and Madi switched back and forth between the languages instead of Clarke admonishing her to only speak English.

I loved pretty much everything about this made family and there were so many little moments and character interactions I loved:
+ Raven vs Echo, Raven's glee at finally beating her and Echo waving it away. I love the idea that Echo taught everyone to fight. I love that in space Raven isn't in the pain she lived with on Earth and is able to find fun in physicality again. I love the ease the two of them have with each other and the teasing.
+ Emori at the control panel! I love that Raven's apparently taken her as her apprentice and how much she is clearly a trusted and important part of the group.
+ Emori shotgunning a spacewalk from Monty was great. I loved that little interplay. I love how much Emori has thrived in space.
+ The Bellamy/Murphy scene was excellent. I love how understanding Bellamy is of Murphy's apparent attempt to revert to his former self. I love the fight. I love Bellamy trapping Murphy against the window and trying to force him to say he wasn't worthless. They are wonderful.
+ Also - Murphy has his own side of the ship? LOL. How did he get a whole side, he's one person!
+ "We make decisions as a team." - Emori. God, she's come so far! Love.
+ I'm sad that Emori/Murphy broke up and yet while it surprises me it also doesn't? It actually makes so much sense to me that in the confined space of the Ark with nothing changing that Murphy would eventually self-destruct. I'm also not worried about them as a couple at all. They clearly still love each other and I'm certain that this season is going to be them finding their way back to each other.
+ The little exchange between Raven/Murphy was a delight. I love them. I also love that they each make pointed comments about the other's weak point (Raven on his feelings of inadequacy, him her inability to get them to Earth) and yet they don't take the comments personally. It's a dynamic I love.
+ Bellamy/Echo are sweet. They've clearly made each other really happy which I'm glad about but there is no way they are going to last the season. Based on their talk I'm thinking they'll fall apart but Echo will continue to be a part of their family, and that won't change.
+ "My sister will understand. ...She'll forgive you too." LOL, what. Oh Bellamy, you are so wrong. Even just going by pre-S5 Octavia there is literally no chance.
+ I feel so much for Monty and his worry about how returning to Earth could return him to the dark survival place because you know he's right, that's exactly where this is headed. In turn that makes me super worried about his survival.
+ I'm a little surprised by how the relationships have landed on the Ark. I was so sure that it would be Murphy/Emori who would go the distance though it seems like they only broke up 6 months ago. Bellamy/Echo isn't a surprise but I didn't think Monty/Harper was a pairing that would last. I am hoping that those weren't the only relationships over the six years and there was more variation. I mean what about poor Raven?
