I liked it okay though it’s definitely low down on my MCU best of list. Not because it was bad but because I didn’t find it super interesting? It didn’t come together as well as other MCU movies.

I liked:

+ Strange himself. He was arrogant yes but not as much as I was expecting and it was for understandable reasons. He also clearly had a lot of heart and tried to be funny.

+ The Cape of Levitation was fun. I love that it chose Strange. I love the scene where it refused to let him go after the obvious weapons (one of the few laughs of the movie). I just love seemingly inanimate objects that love their people and the Cape/Strange fits it perfectly.

+ Wong. I just found him super likeable for some reason. Out of all the characters he was my favourite. I loved him laughing at Strange's 'joke' at the end.

+ Wong and Strange’s relationship though I wish we’d had more of them. But I see the start of a good friendship there and I want to see more.

+ Strange/Christine were good though not shippy good. I liked them as ex's who know each other well and still care for each other even if they didn't work out. I like that Christine clearly likes Strange even if he is a jerk.

+ I liked Strange’s solution to deal with Dormammu. It was actually pretty clever.

+ The visuals and the magic systems were both cool and fun to watch.

+ The Ancient One was an interesting character. I wish we'd gotten more of her story.

What I Didn't:

+ Where the movie really failed in fleshing out the characters. I’m not sure why when other MCU movies get the same run time but here they just didn’t grab me. In particular Kaecilius and Mordo need more depth.

With Kaecilius we get the Marvel Villain Curse in full effect. Mostly because they don't really spend the time to give them depth. There were moments where I could see where I'd like the character. Mads gave him this... wryness (?) I enjoyed. Such as the Mister Doctor exchange or his pause and response when Strange grabbed the vase. Unfortunately the movie spends more time having him use showy magic and be menacing then giving him a full personality or exploring his motivation. I wanted more about why he wants what he does and more on his followers and why they are so devoted to him.

Then there's Mordo. His sense of betrayal by the Ancient One didn't really resonate with me. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's just we needed to know more about the character then the bits we got? The post credit scene with him really felt like it came out of nowhere. Why would he go from betrayed at the breaking of rules to deciding to take out sorcerers? I also really wish more time had been spent on his relationship with Strange. For his eventual breakaway at the end to have the most wait we needed a friendship or mentorship to give it weight.
