I loved this book and I want the next one now. This was one of those books that once I started reading I really didn’t want to put it down.
• I liked Mae in the first book but this one, getting to hear her voice, made me love her. There were times, especially in the middle of the book, when she was irritating me a bit with the whole wishy-washiness over Alan, Seb and Nick. It seemed so obvious that Nick was the one she wanted and so it felt like she was leading Alan and Seb on, especially Alan, and that bugged me. But, yeah, I loved her.
- I’m happy that in the end she finally recognised that she was in love with Nick. While we didn’t get his POV in this book his actions throughout – like the make out scene and then comforting her at the end – have given me hope that they might end up together in the end. I thought there was a good possibility of Mae/Alan happening but while Alan is really great (I always want to hug him) I ship Mae/Nick. So this book made me very happy in that regard.
• Shipping: I am wholly shipping Mae/Nick now. I did slightly after the last book but I’m completely sold now. I also ship Mae/Sin a lot and there were a couple times I was actually wondering if the book would actually go there or hoping that it would. Hmm, and I also rather like the idea of Sin/Alan, of them finding love and acceptance in each other. I want to ship Jamie with someone because he’s adorable and I love him but – I don’t. Gerald doesn’t work for me (I think it’s going to end in heartbreak) and I don’t feel Seb/Jamie (I get why he acted the way he did, except not really, but in the end he tormented Jamie for years so, no thanks) and that doesn’t really leave anyone else. While I love the Nick/Jamie friendship in this book Jamie appears to only see Nick as a friend; which is also good because I want Nick/Mae. As for Alan, I just don’t see anything there. So as of right now no pairing for Jamie.
• A part of me is really sorry that this book was in Mae’s pov because there are a lot of scenes I would have loved to have seen from Nick’s point of view. But even though we didn’t get that I loved everything with him. Nick was great this book and I loved how he struggled with being what he was and kind of wanting to be that but also wanting to be human enough for Alan, and eventually for Mae and Jamie, and not knowing how and kind of hating it even as he wanted it.
• I also loved Jamie. Oh, Jamie with his angst and sweetness and snarkiness, I loved him a lot in this book. I hope he gets to find some happiness in the next book – with someone not evil.
• The first book was really all about the Nick/Alan sibling relationship and their love for each other with the Mae/Jamie relationship there but more in the background (understandable). With this book it’s the Mae/Jamie sibling relationship and love for each other that’s front and centre with Nick/Alan taking a backseat and after finishing the book I’ve realised that I love Mae/Jamie more than Nick/Alan. I just... I adore these two, and their relationship, and how much they love each other, and how loyal Mae is to Jamie, and... *hands*
