The 100 5x07 Thoughts

+ Wow, Bellamy was harsh! I mean it wasn't entirely uncalled for but I felt sorry for Octavia. For the first time she's reaching out to Bellamy in a really genuine way and he smacked her down hard. That little smile she had when he said Spacekru thought it would be better if they just got back to Earth was so Octavia and then it's just wiped out and all the sincerity disappears back behind her Blodreina mask.
+ This episode was the most mom Clarke has been yet: her braiding Madi's hair (aww!), making sure she takes a canteen, making sure again to Madi's clear annoyance that Madi knows exactly what to do. So much love for Madi kissing Clarke's cheek in goodbye. I love them so much. I love how protective Clarke is, and how despite her clear annoyance that Madi loves Clarke just as much as she's loved.
+ I am so excited to have Clarke/Monty together again. Still no hug, ): but them investigating together makes me really happy. It reminds me of the earlier seasons and also that time in Arkadia when they were being hunted by Emerson. Good memories!
+ Six years has clearly made Clarke forget that Monty can do literally anything. I love how much the show is letting Monty show off his smarts this season.
+ Clarke, Bellamy and Monty scheming and talking together made me really happy. This was great (and one of my favourite scenes of the episode):
"Clarke. He was there when Pike shot her. And killed three hundred of her people." - Monty
[long pause]
"I'll go with him." - Clarke
LOL! That amused me so much. It also once again showed the distance Clarke is keeping from everyone else. Before the time jump she would have automatically gone with Bellamy or would have made Monty's observation and went in his stead. Here she doesn't even consider it until Monty speaks up.
I also found it interesting on Monty's part. He's Spacekru but instead of simply going with Bellamy himself he purposefully enlisted Clarke's help. In the farm he got her into the room but then stood back and let her lead. It feels like Monty is trying to or already has accepted Clarke as his people again.
+ "Hey. We need to talk to Indra. (short pause) Get out." LOL! Oh god, I love this Clarke. I love her so much. I love that she tells Bellamy to be diplomatic and then when she comes to back him up she does it by immediately barking out orders. I love that she just assumes they'll listen to her. Also loved Bellamy's little "Real diplomatic" aside to her.
+ I liked the Echo/Raven scenes but this episode really emphasised to me how much we needed a flashback episode for Spacekru earlier this season.
+ I'm a little disappointed that Kane clearly filled Diyoza in about everything because I wanted a little story time with her and the other prisoners reacting to the crazyiness that was seasons one to four.
+ Even if the worms couldn't survive more than a couple days outside the valley wouldn't they also kill all the animals? If they got outside the valley it would make every trip outside dangerous. Plus a couple short experiments is not enough to base the last habitable place on Earth and potential future of the human race on. The whole idea, beyond the moral issues, is risky and dumb.
+ Octavia definitely has a point that Bellamy and Clarke don't have much room to judge her on the whole 'sacrificing others to save your own' scale and she had a point with her jab at Clarke about irradiating that random man. But at the same time... no. She doesn't have to do this. She's never really considered peace nor tried to find a way to reach it.
+ Monty reading Jasper's letter and confronting the others was an amazing scene. I am so glad with how the show dealt with the letter.
+ It occurs to me that if Jasper had been in the bunker he would have been proven right whereas if he’d gone to space he might have been able to find peace and happiness again.
+ "Monty now isn't the time..." I like how softly Clarke said this. I love that it comes right after Monty says Jasper was going to shoot himself because this time Clarke can absolutely understand where Jasper was coming from. Clarke has had that exact moment of despair with a gun herself. I really want that to come out. It would have to be Clarke confessing it but I want it so bad. Maybe this is all leading to Monty falling into despair and Clarke telling him about what happened with her and how there was hope and peace and joy afterwards (for a time). That it is worth it to keep fighting.
+ For all that Bellamy was determined, and was, better on the Ark he's been back on Earth for only weeks now and he’s fallen back into that old way of thinking. Monty's fears realised. The way Bellamy says ‘it's too bad for the sentries’ was 100% old Bellamy and I understand why Monty reacts then.
+ I’m so happy that Monty got so much more focus and I hope that continues going forward. Hell, even Harper got a couple lines and even a whole scene that wasn’t about her relationship. Progress!
+ Octavia being mean to Indra was just wrong. The fact that she knew Indra helped Kane and said nothing is another small sign that Octavia isn't completely subsumed into her Blodreina personality.
+ Echo's plan to complete her mission was clever. I liked how smoothly she and Raven worked together. Even upon being confronted unexpectedly with Echo's plan Raven is able to do exactly what she needs to without even a word exchanged. Of course to do what she did Echo also had to betray Raven. I think the same way we see other people falling back into bad habits Echo has also fallen into that trap. It leads her to disregard Raven, to not trust Raven enough to let her have the time to come up with a different way, because her people’s safety is more important than a maybe ally she doesn’t know.
+ I loved Bellamy's proud little smile when Clarke said "Echo did it".
+ The Bellamy/Monty scene was nice. You really felt their long-standing friendship and how well they know each other. I loved Bellamy teasing Monty about his algae and the fact that he actually got him to smile. It was a very adorable moment.
+ 'Our friends come first.' The new 'for our people'.
+ The Kane/Abby break-up was sad. Kane wants so badly to help/save her but it's not that easy. I'm actually really pleased that it's not his love that pushes her to give up the drugs but I wonder what it's going to be? Danger towards Clarke? Her losing her ability as a doctor in a significant way?
+ How is Madi so good at fighting? Is it just that her Nightblood gives her the edge? I'm sure she had some training pre-praimfyre but she was six. I know Clarke had been training her during the six years but it’s not like Clarke knows much about fighting herself. She's never even learned to use a sword. Is this a situation where they fumbled their way into training each other? Can Clarke use a sword? I need these flashbacks.
+ Quintessential Madi: her giving Ethan a helping hand up. Breaking that cycle. It makes me feel like if there is going to be hope of breaking out of the cycle of violence Madi is going to end up an essential part of it.
+ "Madi kom Wonkru..." that sounds so wrong. SO WRONG!
+ That passive-aggressive exchange between Clarke and Octavia was great. Clarke's expression when she walked away from the fight delights me. Wanheda is back! And she is so pissed. It was clear that she walked into the room at the end already planning to take down Octavia. She knew what Diyoza was going to say but honestly I feel like that was more of an excuse. Octavia made herself Clarke's enemy and Clarke was going to (try) and take her out regardless of anything else. And in the process she decide to stop being an observer and find a third path, as she always does.
I like how the swerve Clarke has taken is a combination of current Clarke with her #1 priority being Madi and past Clarke with her idealism and wanting to do the best for everyone. I do think her choice was made because of Madi but the way she went is because she’s Clarke and she tries to take the best path. It also feels like Jasper's letter and Monty probably had a part in her decision.
+ It's interesting that Bellamy doesn't get what it means when Clarke says Madi is with Octavia. He completely misses it! He's too caught up in his worry for Echo and is laser focused on his plan.
+ Monty puts his hand out and stops Clarke for taking the radio and that's his instinctual reaction. But she only has to say 'stopping the cycle' for him to let her have it because at the end of the day Monty does trust Clarke. He sees her as a good person who does her best and who wants the same things. At the end of the day she has saved them all countless times and has earned his trust. They made me really happy this episode. Now I just want that damn hug!
+ I love that Clarke doesn't look away from Bellamy the entire time she's talking to Diyoza. I like that she isn't trying to hide away from his reaction. It's Bellamy who turns away even before she says it because he knows where she's going.
+ I'm nervous about what the unintended consequences of this are going to be. This is the 100 so there will be some. Is someone going to die during the fight to take down Blodreina? If they succeed, it’s going to create a power vacuum – who is going to fill that and how could that potentially backfire? I’m pretty worried that in her efforts to protect Madi and to find another option than war Clarke deposing Blodreina is going to lead to Madi taking the Flame and becoming Heda. Possibly to protect Clarke from the consequences because that’s also something we’ve seen her do. Or, (or in addition to) the saddest possibility for me – however it plays out causes Madi to turn on Clarke. She still deeply hero worships Octavia and she is missing a lot of context for Clarke’s actions. I will be so upset if this causes a rift between them but I could see it happening.
+ If this was another show I would have some hope that they were actually going to break the cycle of violence they've been trapped in but this is The 100 so... nope. This is all going to end in tears and death. And yet... Jasper's letter and the fact that they are talking about it makes me think maybe? I wish I could believe that Jasper was wrong and that there is a future for some of these people that is good and kind and hopeful.
