O Mother, Where Art Thou?
I loved it! Such a great episode. I enjoyed every single plotline.
+ I love when a series manages to sell me on a pairing based on one episode. Yalena/Khlyen was amazing. From their first scene I found them captivating. Their love story is so wonderful. Yalena didn't fight to keep them together but it wasn't because she no longer loved Khlyen and I want to know more about that story. I love that she doesn't accept any of Khlyen's crap and knew that there was something wrong with him almost from the start. I love that it's his death that has her losing hope for a moment before deciding that he will find a way back to her.
The fact that even Hullenised Khlyen cared so much for Yalena, his gentleness with her, the fact that he could have killed the Lady centuries ago but didn't because Yalena asked him to try and save their daughter and himself first, was so great. The two of them love each other so much! If they don't get a reunion and a happy ending I am going to be so sad.
+ Yalena is amazing balls. I love her and I want more of her immediately. Her snark and take no shit attitude are perfect. I loved that her one question to Khlyen, when she thinks she will get the truth, is about Aneela.
+ I'm really bummed that Dutch never tried to explain her exact relationship to Aneela to Yalena. "She's family" covers a lot of ground and I want/need to see Yalena reacting to learning that Dutch is her grand-daughter/clone daughter.
+ "Fainting's for the weak. I took a very sudden nap." - Yalena. Heh. It must be a Qreshi royalty thing because I can absolutely see Delle Seyah saying the same thing. And that's not the only time Yalena reminded me of her - the "I'm a queen" really did to, as did her cleverness and general manner. I hope we one day get to see the two of them interacting because I'm sure it would be fascinating. Also beyond their similarities Delle Seyah is Yalena's daughter-in-law so that could be fun.
+ Really Khlyen, you named your clone daughter/grand-daughter after your wife?
+ It was so nice to see Khlyen as Khlyen again. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Yalena's belief that he will find a way back to her will prove true. We know that Aneela can pull things from the Green so I would love so much for Aneela and Dutch pulling Khlyen from the Green and saving him together.
+ "I'm his daughter." A really nice little moment. I shipped them in the beginning but I love where their relationship has gone. I hope this does manage to get explored some before the end.
+ I find it interesting how Dutch's family has become such a thing. Her made-family has been so important to her, and still is, but the show has given her, and keeps adding more, bio family and these last couple episodes have had her accepting them as that. She calls herself Khlyen's daughter, she shows concern for Aneela ("Hang on Aneela, I'm coming", I loved this) and claims her as family and now she has both a nephew/brother/son and a mother who she clearly wants to know more. Dare I hope that the series could end with Dutch happily surrounded by both her made and bio family?
+ Wait, did we know that Khlyen's family name was Kin Rit and that he was Qreshi royalty, one of the Ten? I don't remember learning that before. Huh, so I guess Dutch really is a princess!
+ "Yeah, bold aggression that's a choice." LOL, Johnny, you know that's Dutch's go to choice.
+ "I knew we'd die together eventually." - Johnny. Awwwww! Johnny always having Dutch's back, always being there for her, always choosing her makes me so happy.
+ "Surprises keep our relationship spicy." Lucy/Johnny are always great but they were amazingly great this episode. Snarky Lucy is the best. I loved that she wouldn't let Johnny's line about her needing him go and her so sarcastic "You still got this John?" before saving him. This exchange was amazing:
"I'm a complicated person, Lucy. I contain multitudes."
"Of bullshit?"
LOL! Especially when she later follows it up with "I'm a complicated program, Johnny".
+ Turin/Weej are delightful. Turin really is the best when paired up with someone who frustrates the crap out of him because it's hilarious. Like this:
"They're my guys, okay. Like you. Understand?"
"(pause) What is love?"
"Oh god, someone kill me."
I really hope we get some more Human School with Turin.
+ Weej is adorable. His attempt to gain Pree/Gared's trust and "You're my guys" with that cute grin was great. I'm already invested in him and his slow steps to figuring out how to be human. I am very curious about why he is so different from all other Hullen we've met. I feel like his existence could be a piece of foreshadowing for the future for Hullen - that they don't necessary have to be de-Hullenised or killed but can be saved as people as they are. Hmm.
+ Pree/Gared are cute. I loved their reunion and how much faith Gared has in him, and Pree's admiring look at Gared in uniform, and that little silent exchange over what was the biometric scanner.
+ Johnny shutting the cloaking machine down, knowing that doing so would give them a very narrow window to leave, before contacting Dutch was such a terrible idea. I mean, what the hell Johnny? What if she was being held prisoner and couldn't escape? What if she, say, found her mother and wanted to hang around a little longer? He didn't think that one out.
+ Honestly the main negative was the lack of Fancy. I didn't really miss D'Avin/Jaq, or Zeph/Pip or even Delle Seyah but a couple times I found myself thinking "this scene could use more Fancy". I mean, every scene could but I'm curious about why he didn't break into the RAQ with Pree? That made no sense to me.
+ Is Zeph specifically keeping the spider in Pip's head a secret because she thinks everyone else would want to kill him? Because I realise she thinks she's the smartest person but having more people working on the problem would make his survival, even just slightly, more likely.
