The Kids Are Alright?

This was a great episode! Fun but also emotional.

+ Wow, how things have changed. This time last season Dutch was working to kill Aneela and now she's taking Aneela's place trapped in the Green and giving Aneela her body. I am very excited about this turn of events!

+ Pip's death worked really well. It actually made me sad for one thing. He used to be a character I didn't care at all about but the last couple episodes have done a good job in changing that. I liked him and Zeph a lot. I liked how he was with her. I liked his bravery and desire to do the right thing. His reasoning for why it had to be him made complete sense. He was the only choice considering he was already dying. Plus - "She will never forgive herself when she can't save me. But will get over me dying to save you." got to me. This was definitely a good death. Meaningful, sad but also fitting.

+ "You know what they say about Team Awesome Force? D'av will take the bullet, John will fix what's broken... and Dutch will bring you home." - Zeph.

First - I loved the cheering and clapping their entrance got. I love how they're seen and that they are heroes and acknowledged as that at this point. I find it lovely.

Second - Oh man, I am so sad for Zeph. When she told Pip to find Dutch because "she's magic" it was painful. She believes and trusts in Dutch so much! Being let down was inevitable, pedestals always fall, but this was such a terrible way for it to happen. And the thing is I don't think she's entirely wrong in her anger/disillusionment. I think Pip's death was necessary and there wasn't actually another way but Dutch didn't fight her hardest to find one. If it had been Johnny or D'Avin in the hot seat she would have spent more time trying to find a different way but because she doesn't care about Pip in the same way she was able to accept his sacrifice pretty much immediately. It was going to happen this way regardless, probably, so the real betrayal here is how Dutch didn't fight for him.

+ They killed Weej, those bastards! :( That hurt. I wanted to watch Weej grow and change more. Plus you could see Turin's heart break. It was really sad.

+ Basically all the group scenes of our Killjoys were super fun. Once again exsasperated Turin is a joy to behold and clearly everyone else agrees with me. Two of my favourite moments of the episode:

Johnny: Technically you're the boss.
D'Ain: Technically.
Pree: It's more politeness really.
Fancy: Ceremonial.
Dutch: Like a figurehead. No real power.
Turin: You're fired. All of you.

♥ I adored this scene. I love how much fun they are all having teasing Turin.

Then there's this small exchange:

Johnny: The longer I'm plugged in the bigger the chance my brain melts.
Fancy: Might be an improvement.
Johnny: Or bring me down to your level.
Turin: I'll put both of you in the corner.

Hee. I love Dutch's smile. This is the Fancy content I've been missing.

+ "I am cool cool with you guys being badasses with benefits but what I'm not cool with is you hiding shit behind my back. Except for the sex stuff. The walls are thin enough." Heh. This is interesting though, Johnny feeling alone and uncertain of his place with the two of them together. His conversation with Lucy was great and I loved that distance shot of him sitting alone working and how it emphasised his aloneness (even though he did have Lucy there.) I'm curious about where the show is going with this.

+ It was so great to see Delle Seyah. I love her off doing research and finding important information in the fight on her own. Her reunion with Jaq was understated but great. It's a small thing but I love that she accepted Jaq's chosen name. I'm going to be sad if she doesn't show up in the next episode.

+ I loved that Johnny/Delle Seyah moment. I'm glad that his anger is still very much present and real. I'm even rather glad that he did get to see Delle Seyah hurting like he used to dream about. What she did wasn't a small thing and it shouldn't be easy to move past. But what I love best is Johnny promising her that he'll free Aneela because that is who Johnny is. What I need next season is for the two of them to have a scene where Delle Seyah utterly sincerely expresses her regret to him for Pawter's death.

+ The return of D'Avin and Fancy, yay! I got excited when they entered the bridge and D'Avin put his hand on Fancy's shoulder in greeting which was a great little background touch. But then they were teamed up and had a Hullen shoot off and it was fun. I loved D'Av's line about Fancy being more fun 'when he could shoot him'. I'm not sure about their final scene with D'Avin actually shooting him. I think it's in line with their relationship and in another situation I'd find it amusing but in this episode it didn't land with me tone-wise.

+ Turin/Dutch were so good this episode. I adored their first scene. Their long relationship and affection for each other really stood out and it was wonderful to see.

"I'm going to kiss you on you forehead right now." - Dutch
"I'll kick you into the box." - Turin
