Sporemageddon
Aneela was so much fun. I enjoyed watching her with the Jacobi brothers and I'm really glad that her falling for the Lady's promises was actually a trick to make sure their plan worked. I'm 90% sure she survived the end and if she didn't I will be very disappointed.
Dutch/Aneela were great. It's so interesting to watch Dutch with Aneela this episode. When they are reunited in the Green our first shot is of Dutch's hand gently stroking down Aneela's face to wake her. She is so gentle with her. She gives her hand to help Aneela up and it's Aneela who pulls her hand away from Dutch first. We get a callback to Aneela and Delle Seyah's loving goodbye last season with "Be brave." / "Be brutal". When Aneela 'betrays' them she doesn't believe it and it's her refusal to just accept it that lets her realise what's happening. She is genuinely upset at the thought that Aneela was killed in the destruction of the Green. We get a flashback to Dutch claiming Aneela as family to Yalena, and while I never would have thought we'd get to this point last season, Dutch's behaviour towards Aneela makes me buy it.
That final scene was definitely something! I rather love that Dutch/Johnny are married in this reality. The Lady is super creepy as a kid (and also looks surprisingly like Zeph.) Jaq being on the run makes me think that he's immune to what the Lady has done and that's why she wants him dead. It's an interesting twist.
I loved the stand-off at the Green Pool. Aneela's amusement, D'Av and Johnny immediately turning their guns on Turin, Aneela and Zeph little science talk while completely ignoring the guys much to their consternation, "Men need to fight; it gives them meaning. And us entertainment." Fun!
"Johnny Favourite", ♥ Because Johnny is Dutch's favourite?
I loved the Lady taking the form of so many different characters especially the return of Pawter and that we got Delle Seyah on screen so much even without her actually being there.
I loved seeing Pawter again. Poor Johnny. But I think in the long run this might be exactly what he needs to finally start moving past her death.
I appreciate that one of Dutch's worst moments used against her was her mistake with Banyon because that really was a massive fuck up and I'm glad to know it does still bother her.
Pree/Gared continue to be really sweet.
The Pree/Zeph scene was really nice.
The end doesn't make sense. Aneela is the only one who knows how to get out of the Green so how the hell did Dutch and the others get out without her? It's a pretty major plot point that she's needed to get out!
The silent reappearance of actual Khlyen at the end with Aneela gives me hope that we'll see more of him next season. All I want is him to actually get some screen-time as himself. Okay, a lie. I also want him back alive, reunited with Yalena and getting a happy ending with his family but I'll take just getting him on-screen again.
This episode emphasised to me how little impact Alvis's and his death has had. Pawter's death has haunted Johnny for two seasons now and even if it isn't mentioned every episode you know it's something that is still deeply affecting him and his anger at Delle Seyah is very much still there. Meanwhile, while Alvis has been mentioned a couple times this season his death really doesn't have as much weight because it honestly doesn't seem to matter to Dutch. We never see her mourning him and more importantly his death doesn't weight on her relationship with Aneela.
