The Woman Who Fell to Earth

I really enjoyed it.

+ I love Thirteen already. She's wonderful.

- I loved the sing-song way the Doctor says "not anymore!" re: reformatting Ryan's phone.

- I loved her sheepish "I would have" re: touching the glowing lines because the Doctor always does and it made me laugh.

- I love that twice she gets to tinker and build impressive technology out of junk. I hope we get more of that this season.

- I loved her immediately jumping between the cranes and her crack about "these legs definitely used to be longer" was funny.

+ Thirteen's angry "You had no right to do that" to Karl after he kicked the stenza alien off the crane felt very Ten of her. I could practically hear Ten's voice when she said that. Personally though I loved Karl doing that. The Stenza warrior was a murderer who had just been actively trying to kill him and while he seemed dealt with who's to say that he wouldn't turn around and try to kill/take Karl?

+ This was a really dark episode. There was lightness in the characters and interactions but underpinning it was a lot of innocent death. The train operator who died of shock; poor Rahul who only wanted to learn the truth about his sister; the poor drunk guy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time (a really unnecessary death); the poor grandad security guard (I was really sad about him!) and then Grace capping it off.

Plus there's all those Stenza trophies still trapped on their Homeworld in a state between life and death. Could they be rescued, alive? How many of them are there? I really hope this comes back up later. I'm curious if this episode is setting the tone for what the show is going to be like this season because I think I'd prefer something a bit lighter.

+ I love that Thirteen essentially accidentally kidnapped her new Companions.

+ I like that one of the Doctor's new Companions is this curmudgeonly skeptic who does not want to run into trouble thank you very much. It's different and thus could be interesting.

+ Grace's death was sad but I had figured out it was coming pretty immediately so I was prepared and waiting for it. It's really too bad because of all of them she's clearly the one who would have loved travelling with the Doctor most, who had the most clear Companion traits, and she was having so much fun at the end there and would have had so much fun as a Companion and I'm sad for her that she never got to have that adventure.

+ I'm curious about where that little regeneration light went to and if it actually means something or not.
