NCIS 8x01 'Spider and the Fly'
This was an okay premiere but overall I was left feeling meh and there were a lot of things that didn’t work for me.
• The show hit my suspension of disbelief though. How are they going to explain in court Gibbs basically setting Alejandro up to kill his sister? I find myself sceptical that Gibbs killing their father isn’t going to come up at trial. Vance hiding Abby’s report is only one puzzle piece.
• I was annoyed with Gibbs when Vance offered to put his father into protective custody and Gibbs just brushed it off. I think he even said something about ‘how could it get any worse’ which made me want to head smack him, and not in an affectionate way. There are many ways it could be worse, like the obvious of his father being killed, or let’s just say one of the protective agents dying. I don’t say this often but Gibbs was being an idiot this episode.
• I found it hard to believe that four months had passed without Paloma making a move or anyone finding her. She should have been on most wanted lists and with other agencies looking for her. Plus four months of around the clock protection for both Abby and Jackson is a lot of man-hours and money. Would the government really be so easy paying it?
• Why exactly was Franks there anyway? He didn’t actually do or contribute anything.
• I did like Abby bonding with her agent and all the Ziva, McGee and Tony stuff.
Glee 2x01 'Audition
This was very eh for me. Overall I found the episode very embarrassing. I'm kind of over this show. I think next week is going to have to really improve or I might end up just not watching.
- I liked Beiste.
- I liked how Tina and Mike got together (i.e. that it wasn’t about Artie not being able to dance or Mike’s looks but about how Artie treated Tina – ignoring her, not caring about her interests, etc) and I hope we see more of both of them.
- The Santana/Quinn fight was kind of fun to watch.
- I did like Sunshine well enough and I don’t blame her for choosing Vocal Adrenaline. She seems like a nice girl not the Rachel-like diva I was expecting.
- I still dislike Will.
- Rachel was kind of surprisingly horrendous. What was going on with her? Rachel is very self-absorbed but what she did was pretty extreme even for her.
Undercovers 1x01 'Pilot': I liked it, though I didn’t love it like I was half expecting to. I liked both Sam and Steven and their relationship. I enjoyed the scenes between Samantha, Steven and Leo, and I’m glad he’s a full cast member. I did find Sam saying they ‘used to go out’ a little weird. It just sounded weird to me. ‘Used to date’ would have fit better, IMO, because ‘go out’ sounds young and juvenile to me. I liked their catering business. This show does need more women though.
No Ordinary Family 1x01 ‘Pilot’
I wasn’t bad. There were definitely things that annoyed me, some seriously, and I wasn’t completely engaged but I did enjoy it for the most part. I might watch more.
• It feels like Jim got more with his power – not just strength but also his jumping ability (which is something quite different), and near invulnerability – while all the other each got only this one thing.
• I thought Jim was a police officer so it was a surprise when it turned out that he was a police sketch artist. I liked it.
• I really liked that George/Jim friendship. I was very amused by how after only a couple weeks George went from unwillingness and disbelief to him pushing Jim to try and fly even as Jim insisted he couldn’t. (“Just take a running jump.” Heh) I’d think that they’d have the sense to pick a building that wasn’t quite so high for the first attempt though. I loved how supportive and into it all George was – he created a lair! – and that he was constantly pushing Jim to tell Steph the truth. A couple scenes it felt like George was the Oracle to Jim’s Batman.
• A big issue I had, probably the biggest one, was that Jim gets a best friend to confide in while Steph gets... her lab tech subordinate with whom she’s not very close to? I call foul. That really, really annoyed me. Why the hell can’t Steph have a best friend to support her?
• I do love that Katie’s a comic fan who loves Kitty Pride and was asking questions about how it worked and was excited about it. I really hope this is leading to them becoming best friends.
• I was also annoyed at the end how Steph had to reassure Jim that he was amazing and awesome and wonderful but of course he didn’t have to reassure her or give her support about her issues. Sigh.
• The Daphne storyline was rather eh. It started out badly with the scene with Lindsey and Daphne calling her a slut. It wasn’t unexpected I guess but makes me tired anyway.
• I love that Stephanie is a competent doctor.
• I found the fact that her coat belt broke a driver’s side mirror as she was running past the car interesting. It appears that what she’s wearing is invulnerable while she uses her power (no mention made of her shoes being destroyed) but she can destroy things in fast-time with the barest touch. That could be so dangerous. What if she’d hit a person with her belt?
