Pandora’s Box

This was a really excellent episode.

• I loved the confrontation scene. That was well done on everyone’s part and Constance Marie did an amazing job. Regina kept the secret for exactly the reasons I had surmised though her love for Daphne was more emphasised than I was expecting (I was expecting her fear of losing both girls because she was a mess to be what she’d emphasise more).

• I felt bad for everyone. Daphne and Bay more then the adult Kennish’s and Regina most of all. It feels strange considering she knew all along and has been lying but I really sympathised with her. She spent the episode so scared, and then was ganged up against and her desperation during the confrontation and then when she talked to Daphne afterward was so vivid.

• Bay feeling rejected was really understandable considering the distance Regina has kept from her. I really felt for her. I hope now that the secret is out they can begin to connect. I would love to see a scene where the two of them sit down and look through Regina’s guitar case together. I feel like that could be an excellent starting point for Bay to see how much Regina does love her and a good scene for the viewers to see the same.

• Kathryn stated during the confrontation that they would never have tried to take both girls but I don’t believe it for a second. Regina was an alcoholic, jobless single mother and there is no way they would let her raise their daughter – either of them. I don’t think they’re bad people, and they would be doing what they thought best for the girls but to deny they would do that is ridiculous. I mean after the confrontation John even states “we’re going to get custody of both our daughters” and while he’s feeling understandably betrayed it’s still the first place he went. He’s angry, yes, but he is not thinking of either of the girls in that moment.

• It’s the fact that I believe the Kennish’s would have tried to take both girls if they had known the truth that is making me so sympathetic towards Regina. I think she had reason to be afraid, especially when she was in such a bad place, so it makes her actions more understandable and even almost logical and sensible. She made the choice for everyone and did what she thought was best and I think at the very least she made the best decision for herself. The fact that she went from that revelation and the ruin that her life was in and pulled herself together – got sober, found a job and a home, reconnected with her mother and did her very best to be a good mother for Daphne – also makes me feel for her.

• I think it’s going to be Kathryn who is going to reach out to Regina and forgive her first. She and Regina were starting to become friends, as a mother I can see her thinking about herself in that situation, I saw her empathising with Regina during her explanation, if John pushes to have custody of both girls I can see her realising that perhaps Regina had reason to be scared and in her final scene Kathryn was already thinking about the Bay and how she needs Regina in her life.

• Regina really should have gathered everyone together to explain once it became obvious that the truth was going to come out instead of continuing to try to hide it.

• I loved the scene where Regina is going to throw the guitar case into the garbage but instead opens it and upon seeing the pictures of Bay just can’t bring herself to do it. I think we get to see Regina’s love for Bay more in that one little scene than we have during all the previous episodes combined.

• I loved the Toby/Regina scene at the end. I was so glad when he hugged her and told her he would miss her because she really needed it. I like that the two of them have their own building relationship.

• The Emmett/Bay scenes are still really enjoyable. I like how well they get along.

• I do not like Emmett continuing to keep his relationship with Bay a secret. He’s not only keeping it from Daphne he is lying to her about. Then there’s Bay who threw a fit when she learned that Daphne was dating her ex-boyfriend (even though she was dating someone else) but who hasn’t had any reaction about dating Daphne’s best friend. Has she thought at all about how Daphne would react?

• For all that Emmett is supposed to be in love with Daphne he was remarkable not-jealous or upset when he found Daphne with Wilke and pointed out that she’d missed doing up a button.

• I'm mainly neutral about Wilke and Wilke/Daphne. I continue to find Liam being MIA weird. I really just want Daphne to get a good love interest – and not Emmett.

• I can see that the hospital was trying to throw doubt on the idea that it was at fault for the switch with some of their insinuations but then they switched to insinuating that the Kennish’s knew the truth as long as Regina did. I think that would be easy enough to prove as false. But even if they did know the truth the hospital was still at fault. Regardless of the length of time the switch lasted it still happened.

• Toby spent the episode looking through boxes the Kennish’s had stored and I’m wondering if that was to give him something to do out of the way or if he’s going to find something. Perhaps some other secret?
