3x20/ Episode 98

+ Holy crap, Saralegui plays a dangerous game! Getting himself shot to ‘save’ Yuuri is really extreme to get someone’s loyalty. All the same I love how he’s manipulated everything, though there were a couple times when his manipulation seemed a little more obvious.

+ Then we get Yuuri’s reaction which is him actually crying in pain and anger and then the Maou showing up bigger and angrier than ever. I’m pretty sure that this is the angriest we have ever seen the Maou before which I find interesting. I mean, that it was for Saralegui. As a shipper, even a new one, it made me squee a bit.

+ I do wonder why he wasn’t instantly trying to heal Sara – wait, can Yuuri heal? I thought he could. Julia was of course a healer but didn’t Yuuri heal someone once? Hmm.

+ The giant shadow Maou was also very interesting – I don’t think we’ve seen that exactly before.

+ I found it very interesting that Janus made the connection between the Maou and Soushu. It seems like a throwaway line but it feels like more. Like it’s something that’s going to be coming back up again.

3x21/Episode 99

- I loved Yuuri holding Saralegui’s hands in his own and then the close up of the hands with Wolfram and Murata watching in the background. That was my favourite moment.

- This episode felt like a throwback to the first seasons with it having such a Conrad/Yuuri focus. I loved him catching Yuuri and this: “No matter what I must do, I won’t let them have you.”

- Yozak notes that the Maou seemed ‘different from the other times he used his power’ which I found interesting. I noticed it too but for it to actually be mentioned in show it has to mean something. Especially added to Janus’s opinion that it felt like Soushu’s power. I’m definitely convinced now that there is something going on here.

“Letting your anger direct you actions for you is dangerous.” – Murata. I am really glad that Murata brought this up because it is so true and Yuuri should have been learning from the beginning on how to control his – inner-Maou. But this actually ties into Yozak’s thought, which I didn’t notice until now – but Yozak talks about how different the Maou felt this time and here we have Murata mentioning how letting anger direct his actions is dangerous and it got me thinking. I mean the Maou doesn’t always show up when he’s angry. Before this the Maou showed up when there was direct danger, either to himself but mainly to others he cared for, pretty exclusively. This time it was very much about anger/pain instead of direct threat (though certainly it was a bad situation). Tying this back to Janus’s Soushu comment – Soushu was the physically embodiment of various negative emotions, like for example anger. There is some definite correlation here though I don’t know if there is an actual connection.

- “Yuuri is a very interesting person. I find him very... intriguing.” – Saralegui. Well, that’s very ambiguous. ‘Intriguing’ in that he wants Yuuri – to die/as a slave/as a friend/as a lover/to play with...?

- Of course Conrad and Murata would know. We see Conrad’s suspicions throughout the episode so it’s not a surprise that he figured it out and the fact that Murata knew just made me go ‘of course’ because it’s Murata. (Also of course he’d have a contingency plan – Gwendal was probably plan M!) Günter also seemed to know though and I wonder if he figured it out himself or if one of them told him? And as usual Wolfram is out of the loop. Amongst Yuuri’s advisors he is very much still the child of the group. I really liked the various interactions in the scene where they bring Gwendal up to speed – the looks on their faces when Wolfram is going on about how they can trust Saralegui and the exchange between Conrad and Gwendal.

- I did find it very interesting that Wolfram did completely change his mind about Sara. He told Conrad when they first arrived at Shin Shimaron that he didn’t trust Saragelui and with Wolfram it was easy to wave that aside as jealousy. Yet after Sara saves Yuuri, almost dying in the process, Wolfram has done a complete 180 and now trusts him completely. So clearly that distrust wasn’t all about jealousy, or even largely, if he can be so positive about Sara now.

- Yuuri and Sara both watching the moon and thinking of each other – they are really pushing this as a romance, aren’t they. Not that I’m complaining.
