Kyou Kara Maou - Episodes 100 & 102

- Wolfram: Yuuri. What would you liked to do first? Have a bath? Eat some food?
Günter: (jumping in front of Wolfram) I will be more than happy to give you a massage to ease away your tension!
Wolfram: (angry) Why are you butting in!?
Hee. Of the entire cast it’s Wolfram and Günter who I can see having an actual cat fight over Yuuri. I love their little barbs at each other, and getting in the way of the other’s moments with Yuuri.
- “I don’t think that the amount of time spent together has anything to do with two people getting to like each other. Am I not living proof of that, Yuuri?” – Conrad. Aw! So that’s like declaration of love number three?
- Huh, Valtrana had a thing for Julia too? “They’re very alike.” Huh.
- “A man who was once called a child by a child, now supports a child Maou. I suppose that’s not such a bad thing.” – Valtrana.
- When Valtrana first started singing I was a bit meh about it – he really doesn’t have that great a voice – and then the first time when everyone else started to sing along I had to stop it because I found it to be rather embarrassing (and a bit much). But then I forced myself to watch it all and I am so glad I did because I loved it. ♥ I found it moving and beautiful. As a spontaneous affirmation/expression of devotion and loyalty and love for the Maou, for Yuuri, it’s amazing.
The only issue I have with it is that for many of the lords they haven’t really gotten to know Yuuri yet. This episode was very much about Valtrana seeing Yuuri in a different light and coming to follow him but for the others they haven’t had that moment, that we’ve seen, so their joining in the singing kind of lacks weight. I mean, why are they affirming their loyalty/devotion to Yuuri with such love when they don’t know him? I’m just going to fanon that they have all had their own Yuuri revelations before this episode and Valtrana was the hold out.
Something I didn’t get at first was that Valtrana changes the lyrics. I noticed the moment where he pauses in his song but I put it down to him pausing for a realisation that he does support the Maou. But instead we have the song, which as the title would suggest is about Shinou specifically not the Maou as a title/persons, and Valtrana changing it to be about the Maou and not Shinou specifically. It’s occurred to me before that Yuuri is Shinou’s successor in all ways and it really seems to be true.

- I continue to be irritated by how powerful Shori is. It’s kind of illogical but I can’t seem to help it.
- “Well, that’s what it means to be a married couple.” – Murata. Aw, Murata missed the perfect opportunity to rib on Yuuri re: his engagement to Wolfram and his own upcoming wedding.
- Yuuri: (smiling) I really missed you, Wolfram.
Wolfram: (shocked, backs away) Wh-what the heck?
Heh. Wolfram that’s not the right response! He’s so used to chasing Yuuri that he’s not used to Yuuri actually returning affection. While I was amused I have to say I was also surprised. That is not the reaction I was expecting.
- “Being able to put everything you have into helping someone is another form of happiness.” – Murata. (Cut to Shinou). A nice little Murata/Shinou moment though I suppose it could also be considered Murata/Yuuri.
- So now I’m all confused by Janus and who the hell he is. We’ve touched on the fact that he looks exactly like Daikenja which is something that Murata just waved away. We know he has a great hatred for Murata who he calls ‘Daikenjya’. Now we get Shinou dreaming of a painful past moment suddenly remembered and Janus at the same moment watching the Temple. We have his sparkling (WTH?) and the way he says ‘Your Majesty’ is almost with reverence or love, certainly not hatred. So here we have this guy that physically looks like Daikenjya, who hates Murata, who loves Shinou... what does it mean? I would think it’d add up to Murata being an imposter and not really Daikenjya but I don’t think that is a possibility (I hope not!) but I don’t know what it could mean.
