Kyou Kara Maou - Episode 117
Jul. 30th, 2009 10:32 pmI’ve finally finished Kyou Kara Maou! Well, except for the five OVAs. I’m glad that I decided to continue watching because I really did enjoy this series. Considering that this was the last season I wish that Shori had had a smaller role in these later episodes. I also would have liked more Sara/Yuuri interactions, and more movement on Yuuri’s part, as far as his feelings/sexuality goes. But overall - great.
3x39
- When it appeared that Yuuri had lost his maryoku I was really surprised because they actually seemed intent on going through with it. I was wondering if they perhaps thought they’d get another season to deal with it. I did like how he realised he actually did have it – the set up with Murata pushing him into the fountain but him knowing it was coming this time. It was a nice call back.
- I also really liked the moment with the Council of Nobles where it’s set up to look like they’re going to try and remove him as Maou but instead affirm their support of him despite his apparent lack of power.
- I wonder if Shinou’s ‘loss of power’ was true or if it was pretend so that Yuuri would be forced to work (in a way) to get his abilities back? Certainly Shinou, and Murata, had to know that neither Shinou nor Yuuri’s lack of marykoyu was permanent and of course neither of them informed Yuuri of this.
- The idea that they couldn’t return to Earth – for Shori clearly this is really bad since he’s supposed to be its next Maou - for Yuuri it really is far past the time for him to give up his life there. He’s the Maou of Shin Mazoku, he’s committed to being it, has a daughter in that world, so for him to be going to school and thinking about a life there – well, it’s ridiculous. Visits home to visit his parents are fine and good but at this point that’s all it should be. So I was a little disappointed not to have Yuuri realise it and say so.
- I did love Shori’s reaction to the possibility of it though – his determination not to give up, and running off calling for Ulrike to start up his lessons again (but really would Shori ever have enough power to open the door between worlds? Bob can’t. I say no) and especially his line about not being willing to never know the ends of his games because that would so be something I’d freak out about as well (ends of shows, books, seeing the next movies in a series...).
- “If you don’t fix that soft-hearted nature of yours, the other countries will take advantage of you. Especially ambitious men like me.” – Sara. I liked their final scene but I want so much more. One season isn’t enough! I love him telling Yuuri straight out that he’ll probably try and take advantage of Yuuri again. My mind goes in distinctly naughty ways he could do that.
“I was all set to leave this world behind back then, but you were so desperate to stop me. I had no idea you had such a deep attachment to me.” – Shinou. Hee – again my mind immediately goes in a shipping direction. Of course with Yuuri/Shinou there is always the Murata issue and I don’t think I can see them much without it being Yuuri/Shinou/Murata. Or now I’m thinking of a really angsty Murata pov story where Yuuri against all expectation ends up marrying Shinou and Murata is left on the outside watching the two people he loves most together.
- I love the way that Jennifer has pretty much adopted Murata as her son.
- “Hold on to his majesty as best you can, Wolfram! – Cheri, heh. I wonder who she’s really hoping for Yuuri to eventually choose. Cheri is a lot smarter then she often appears and she has to know that Conrad loves Yuuri too.
- I did like how Sara finished his storyline with his mother.
- I really liked this exchange:
Yuuri: Don’t call me heika. You’re the one who named me.
Conrad: (looks down and smiles) Yuuri.
[Yuuri smiles at him, Wolfram stands, furious]
Wolfram: You! What do you think you’re doing?! [Yuuri runs away and Wolfram chases him.] ... Honestly, you flirtatious little – You already have me as a perfectly good fiancé, but you still--
The call backs to the rest of the series, Conrad saying ‘Yuuri’ and Wolfram getting jealous, it was nice.
- Oh, and finally I have the maids named – Lasagna is the red-head, Sangria is the green-haired, Doria is the blonde and Ewe is the new brunette.
- I missed not seeing Adelbert in these last episodes. Considering he was in the first it would have been nice if he could have been in the final one too.
- In that final scene – why exactly were Murata, Shori and Günter sitting at a separate table?
