Grey’s Anatomy 5x12 Review

- Meredith: I liked her this episode. I liked that she did have unwilling sympathy for William and I admit I kind of did too. I liked her terror over meeting Derek’s mother, her following Izzie’s advice and trying to be someone happy and bright and that in the end she was herself and that was what won Mrs. Shepherd over. Meredith’s hair in the ponytail amused me and it surprised me that she really did look kind of different. But I really liked the look we got several times of her hair pulled back except a chunk framing her face. She looked really pretty.
I just really, really wish that Meredith had reached back at Cristina. Cristina was reaching out to her, offered a branch and Meredith didn’t say a word. Meredith!
- It kind of hurt not to have Cristina being there for Meredith as Mere went through the meeting of the mother-in-law as Meredith had been there for her countless times. Like so much on this storyline it felt wrong – Cristina should have been there.
- Cristina: She didn’t have a lot to do but I enjoyed her this episode too. I really loved her reaching out to Meredith. I loved her continuing interest in Mere (asking who the woman was). But I really enjoyed the last scene with Hunt. She looked gorgeous especially in the final bathroom scene. Certainly one of the top three most beautiful moments for her. She looked seriously amazing in these last scenes. Also I really liked what she was wearing – the grey sweater was really pretty. When she got in the shower with him it reminded me of Cristina and Izzie taking Mere into the hospital shower to wash away Dylan.
- I loved the Grey household living room scene where everyone (except Cristina) has gathered to try and calm a freaked out Meredith. I loved Meredith clutching the tequila bottle to herself and Izzie being all cheerful and just all of them being there for her.
“Thanks Alex, you’re a good friend.” – Meredith
“You’re welcome. Keep drinking.” – Alex
- Mrs. Carolyn Shepherd: I liked her but I wish we’d gotten more of her. I was amused by her interrogation of Lexie but was really confused about why we never really got a Meredith interrogation. Why didn’t she ask Lexie about her sister, if her sister was a good person too? Why didn’t she ask Mark about what he thought of Meredith? Why did she just walk away after Meredith’s confession instead of talking to her? It was just kind of weird. I did like her trying to talk to Hunt and I liked her interactions with Mark and Derek. I liked her reasons for liking Meredith, or at least approving of Derek being with her because considering how little she was actually around Meredith or heard others talk about her it was the only thing that would make the littlest bit of sense.
- I really didn’t like the bit with the ring though, not at all. Why exactly did the PTB feel the need to take that hit at Addison? It just wasn’t necessary. There is no way that Carolyn would know that when Derek and Addison got married that they wouldn’t last. In fact from the little we know about Addison and Derek’s life in New York was that Addison was very close to Derek’s family. So I can think of no reason that Carolyn wouldn’t have given the ring to Derek then and it kind of pisses me off that they put it in here. Couldn’t they have made it like, Carolyn’s mother’s ring or something like that? An heirloom ring but not ‘the’ ring. There should be no ‘the ring’.
- “No, not Meredith. God no.” – Mark. I’m choosing to believe his vehemence there isn’t disgust at the idea of being with Meredith but the idea that he would ever do that to Derek again, that he would cheat with Derek’s love and betray him again.
- Lexie:</> Was okay this episode. I liked her standing up to Mark, so to speak, and being unwilling to let herself be used for sex but ignored in public. I loved the Lexie/Mrs. Shepherd scene and found it hilarious. I was kind of surprised that she’s had six (or seven) sexual partners thus far. Just from what we’ve gotten from her thus far, her bit about not being that girl, just didn’t say that she was that experienced. Huh. I wonder what the confusion over the six/seven was about? (My first thought was that she had an experience with a woman and wasn’t sure how to rate it.)
- Wait – what? Lexie is living in Meredith’s attic? When the hell did that happen? How...? Yeah, Derek took her in (though it took me a moment to remember that) but I thought it was for the night! How did she end up living in the attic? And what the hell has happened to George then? I mean he and Lexie had been living in that crappy apartment because it was all they could afford together. Where the hell is he living now?
- George: Once again George seems strangely absent. Even when he’s in a scene he’s kind of like background. Seriously what the hell? This episode gave us Izzie/Meredith and Izzie/Cristina scenes but no Izzie/George. I can’t even remember the last time we had a good George/Lexie scene. Honestly I’m feeling sorry for him. As far as the Lexie situation I feel for him because I don’t think it was his fault. You can’t help who you love and don’t love. The fact that he didn’t love her wasn’t his problem. The fact that she apparently needed/wanted that to the expense of their friendship is again not his fault but hers. If she was a true friend to him she would still be his friend. Sure he was ridiculously oblivious about her obvious crush on him but again not entirely his fault. This situation is more on Lexie in my opinion and I feel sorry for George having to flounder through the fallout.
- Honestly, George just really needs to move back to the Grey house. Alex and Izzie can room together, George can get his old room back and since apparently Lexie has moved in and Sadie is never moving out, they can fix up the attic and the two girls can bunk there together. *nods* That works. I want that.
- Izzie: I actually enjoyed her. I loved how happy she was throughout and that she was being a good friend. I liked her interactions with Meredith, and her trying so hard to help her out. I also liked her interactions with Cristina and her glee about Hunt asking Cristina out. Also her calling him the ‘pig murderer’ amused me. I thought she looked stunning this episode as well. I liked that she realised that Denny isn’t what she wants or at least that dead Denny can’t make her happy.
I was really happy about the final Izzie/Alex scene. Sigh. It’s so going to end in heartbreak.
- Bailey: I was not loving her this episode. Her behaviour with Arizona and her pigheadedness about every little step in this situation while understandable as far as her being so invested in Jackson’s case was still kind of annoying. I was really surprised by the Bailey/Sadie talk. I hadn’t realised that Bailey disliked Sadie so much. Have they even ever had a scene together?
- It’s probably wrong but I really enjoyed the Meredith/William interactions.
- The final scene of the episode Was kind of horrifying and as soon as William pulled his pillow away with his teeth and I knew exactly what he was going to do I just couldn’t watch anymore. Yikes.
