iariaAct 31 ‘Jupiter Awakens Her Senshi Powers!’
Awards
Hottie Of the Week: Makoto/Jupiter. She was looking lovely throughout the episode and it was nice to see her in the different clothes. I thought she looked pretty stunning in the final shot of her.
Funniest Moment: Makoto choking and everyone freaking out. Rei running around in the background was funny but it was Usagi telling Ami to henshin and Ami actually about to do it that made it hilarious.
Cutest Moment: Makoto doing a fashion show with the pictures from the other girls phones was very cute. If only it had been longer. Frankly I’m surprised that Usagi hasn’t instigated a night of trying on different clothes before.
Saddest Moment: … I think it’s when Jupiter was getting her assed kicked and said she couldn’t do it alone and then looked around for the others but of course they didn’t come. Oh, Mako-chan.
WTF of the Week: Luna’s whole ‘force Makoto to eat a food she hates to awaken her inner power’ plan was so stupid. For her to need Rei to point out that whether you like something or not does not have something to do with finding your power inside made me shake my head. Dumb Luna strikes again. And she’s supposed to be leading/mentoring them? Yeesh. Even worse is when she explains it as “I didn’t know where Mako-chan was lacking so I thought we’d tackle stuff she’s bad at first as an example.” which makes no sense. Makoto isn’t bad at eating raw potatoes she just doesn’t like doing it!
Coolest Moment: Makoto calling an actual lightning storm was pretty cool. That whole sequences from her listening to the wind/trees and closing her eyes, all the way to her calling down the thunder was great. She should have gotten a new attack name to go with it though.
Best Senshi Moment: "It’s because… I was sure I’d be alone. I… knew it. I knew it had to be this way. That I had to be by myself. I heard from the wind… that it was all decided in my past life. That’s why I’m fine being alone. … I’m not saying I’m splitting off from my friends… I can’t say it clearly, but… the meaning behind me being alone… It’s something very different. (to Venus) Right? Our “now” is influenced by reasons in the past." I loved her smile when she finished. It was so genuine and content. The idea of her being alone may be sad but right now she’s found peace in it and strength in that peace and I love that.
Best Senshi Interaction: I liked the scene between the four at the Crown when Makoto was doing the ridiculous potato training. It was nice.
• I loved Venus’s expression when Jupiter started to explain what she’d just realised. It was a small moment but perfect. You could see Venus’s empathy in her expression and it was obvious that she understood exactly what Jupiter was trying to say.
• The runner up to the WTF this week would definitely be the youma. Their appearance was so specifically targeted – first showing up at the beach, then the weak ones disappearing to appear right in front of the other senshi – that I don’t buy it happening without someone directing them. And then I have to wonder: why target Jupiter, how did they know where she was and how did they know where the others were?
• I can’t imagine that Makoto called Minako when she called the others which thus leads me to believe all the phones are linked and Artemis/Minako have been using them to spy on the others and keep track of when they’re fighting.
• Sigh. It’s an old issue and yet the annoyance level it creates never decreases. Why, oh, why wouldn’t they have transformed when they got the call? We know that they can travel much faster as Senshi.
• Something I didn’t notice the first time I watched this episode is the way that Motoki got his date with Makoto. He holds out the tickets and backs her into a corner about taking them (she has to because they’re his thanks) and then reveals that one of them is actually for him. He doesn’t actually ask her on the date but instead kind of cons her into it. Huh. I still found them sweet but that annoyed me.
Act 32 ‘Mamoru Comes Back’

Hottie Of the Week: It was close but… Minako. She was looking particularly gorgeous this episode. I loved her in both outfits but the first especially so.
Best Shibby Moment: After so many acts with him having only one scene or none now there are so many great scenes I don’t know how to choose!
Tie:
Mamoru facing the Shitennou and saying “I’ve decided. I’m not running anymore.”
The final Mamoru/Usagi scene – yes, all of it because all of it was awesome and happy making – he declared that he came back to be with her! ♥ I really loved his smile of relief and affection when he realized she wasn’t rejecting him and then an actual grin when he called her an idiot. Awww! Plus: hug! (On a western show that would have totally been a kiss.)
Cutest Moment: Usagi crying and telling Mamoru she can’t give him the muffler – because it will be summer soon. Oh, Usagi.
WTF of the Week: Usagi helplessly reaching for the ticket while the youma choked her to death remains as ‘WTF?!’ worthy as it did the first time I saw it.
Coolest Moment: …Hmm. I suppose Endymion saving Usagi from the youma? I’d forgotten that it was Endymion and not Tuxedo Kamen who saved her and it was pretty cool seeing him.
Best Senshi Moment: Minako. She didn’t have a lot of scenes, none of them did, but I liked everything we got of her. I loved her “Artemis, let Mars and the others know.” which felt very leaderly, her trying to stop Usagi and then her at the end watching their reunion with sad, knowing face.
Best Senshi Interaction: Rei and Ami forcing Usagi to stay at the Crown and trying to convince her why she couldn’t go after Mamoru. Their expressions... they love her so much!
• “You wouldn’t go this far for just any old friend.” – Mio. Actually this is Usagi so she really would.
