I am really enjoying this series thus far.
Our heroine Ma Hye Ri is completely spoiled. She is only interested in having fun and enjoying herself and she thinks that she can pay her way through any situation. She becomes a prosecutor at her father’s urging but has no real interest in it and so doesn’t put any effort into it. She is very smart but lacks in common sense (holy crap is she lacking in that department!) She’s very naive about the world and because of that I think she comes off much worse than she actually is. She’s certainly selfish and self-absorbed to an astronomical degree but she’s not in any way malicious about it. She just has a very low empathy level which makes her unable to see situations through anyone elses eyes. It makes her very inconsiderate. But I think that’s because she has been so sheltered that she has no real experience with ‘real’ life or even consequences.
I actually really like her despite the negatives. I like how happy and good-natured she is. I like how confident she is in herself. I like that she stands up for herself (even if she is usually wrong). I like that she isn’t afraid of confrontation. The scene where she confronts the women gossiping about her in the bathroom was great. Despite her self-absorption I already see in her the potential of being a prosecutor who cares and who will fight (which hopefully she’ll begin to become really soon).
- A large reason for why Hye Ri is so likable is definitely the actress who plays her. I think Kim So Yeon is doing an amazing job. I actually didn’t even recognise her as the person who played Sun Hwa. When I read that she’d been in IRIS I couldn’t figuring out who she’d played and when I read it was Sun Hwa I didn’t believe it at first. I had to confirm it in a couple different places and when I finally accepted it my first thought was: what did she do with her hair?! Sun Hwa is smoking hot. Hye Ri is – not. She’s pretty but not someone I’d call hot. (And not just because she isn’t running around being a competent spy/assassin.) Now that I know how gorgeous Hye Ri can look I really hope we get a make-over. Actually... we have to don’t we? As Hye Ri starts to care and try she’s probably going to start dressing more professionally (while hopefully still staying very much herself) and, also hopefully, this will include doing something with her hair. Unless she stays exactly as she is and wins people over by being awesome and gets them to love her as she is. Hmm.
- Even though I didn’t recognise Kim So Yeon I did know Min Young Won immediately. Or rather I recognised her from Shining Inheritance as the heroine’s best friend Hye Ri (that amuses me). I really liked her in that drama and Hye Ri was one of my favourite parts so I hope Yoo Na gets a bigger role as this series continues.
- I also really like In Woo and I am so curious about who he is. I’ve never seen actor Park Shi Hoo in anything but I’m now a fan. He’s made In Woo very charming. Plus he’s really attractive and I love his smile. Especially all those scenes where he’s smiling about Hye Ri and her ridiculousness.
- I love the Hye Ri/In Woo interactions. I think they have so much chemistry and I’m shipping them already.
Episode 1
• Why would Hye Ri put off reporting the theft to the police for so long? Especially since the thief got her credit cards as well!
• The bathtub scene was hilarious. I watched it a couple times and it remains funny every time.
• The drunk dance scene was pretty horrific. I just could not watch it. In fact I’m choosing to believe it never happened. lalalala
• I like Jung Sun and I liked the confrontation between her and Hye Ri. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that they become friends after a rough start and Jung Sun mentors Hye Ri.
• I am so curious about who In Woo is. Is he the guy who’s been following her? Why? Is he stalking her? I am so intrigued with this character. Who is he?!
• Did In Woo specifically set up the room situation? Was the woman with Yoo Na, the one preventing her from going to Hye Ri’s rescue, working for In Woo?
Episode 2
• I knew that the lady in Yoo Na’s store had to be someone!
• “Her work is not her life. Is she wrong?” – Se Joon. I was surprised to hear Se Joon say this but I agree as well.
• Hye Ri typing so quickly, even though it’s fake, makes me jealous. I do find it interesting that we see her typing quickly (and apparently competently) in this scene but in the previous episode and later in this one she types one letter at a time. It works well as a subtle ‘show’ of how when she cares she can be competent and fast at her work but when she doesn’t care she doesn’t even bother to try.
• I really enjoyed Hyr Ri and In Woo’s lunch ‘date’. I loved her actually bringing a box of money, in small bills, as payment and then him bringing out a bill counter when she demanded he count it all. Hee.
• The most interesting thing about Se Joon thus far is definitely his back. Yum.
• So the picture – an ex or his estranged/dead wife? Apparently I suck at identifying Kim So Yeon when she changes her hair but the picture is supposed to look like Hye Ri, right?
• I find it so sad that no one likes Hye Ri but she doesn’t even realise it. I’d actually find it less sad if she did know. I can totally understand where all her co-workers are coming from and I don’t blame them at all but it still makes me want to cuddle Hye Ri. She’s just so naive and harmless and it makes her seem helpless. Like a kitten.
• Omg I love her closet. I want it (minus her clothes).
• Her makeover of her new office was very childish and kind of ugly.
• Hmm. In Woo does not look at all pleased to her about her ‘promotion’. I continue to love their interactions. Loved him bringing her flowers and their talk outside.
• Hye Ri blaming In Woo for her ‘loss of status’ was completely ridiculous. As was her entire rant at the club.
• I could not watch Hye Ri’s meeting with the Chief and then the show ended with her getting arrested and it just makes me cringe. Can this show just get to her being a competent prosecutor already?
• Why didn’t she immediately start denying what the guy said to the police?
• So did In Woo set Hye Ri up with the two underage guys? And send the photographer? Lol I’m going to start suspecting him of everything that happens in her life now.
I have a theory about In Woo’s identity and his motives. I was re-watching a couple of his scenes and during his first one with Jeni she asks him “What was it like? How do you feel after meeting her for real?” and suddenly it hit me. Hye Ri has been set up for an arranged marriage to the son of a political family. What if In Woo is that son? If this agreement has been in place for awhile perhaps he checked up on her while she was at school and realised that while she was very smart she was also very self-absorbed. He seems to be pretty caring individual himself so if he’s unwilling or unable to break the agreement perhaps he decided to try and make her into a better person and a ‘good prosecutor’ (as he keeps mentioning)? It makes so much sense! It makes everything fit now – his motives for stalking her, for setting up the meeting at the ski resort, for his interest in her at all. I love this theory and now that I’ve thought of it I really want it to be true.
Other Theories:
- The above theory is right except instead of being her fiancé he was hired by her fiancé to make her a ‘good prosecutor’.
- Hye Ri’s father hired him to make her a good prosecutor.
- He wants revenge on her for something she did to him or someone else. She’s very thoughtless so I can definitely see her unknowingly hurting someone. The problem with this is that if he wanted revenge then he should be trying to sabotage her and make her miserable (which she is doing well enough on her own) not help her. So it doesn’t make much sense. Any revenge scenario doesn’t make much sense to me.
- Perhaps that woman he met (while wearing glasses in the first episode) is Hye Ri’s birth mother and she’s asked him to watch over her. This is a kdrama; it’s entirely possible.
