Okay so I have a new In Woo theory and because my episode 7 thoughts were so long it gets it's own post.

Evidence:

- In Woo and Jeni look at a building that is crumbling and it has something to do with their plan. They have this exchange while there:

“Can she do it?” – Jeni
“I have to make it so she can.” – In Woo

- The very next scene is of Hye Ri’s father and another man. This whole conversation was confusing and I think I missed some stuff but the gist I got – the other guy, a politician, helped Mr. Ma with something that helped him make a lot of money which he in turn used some of to support the politician.

- In Woo’s expression as he watches Hye Ri’s father on her terrace.

- In Woo looking at a pair of carefully wrapped shoes in this episode added to the flowers at the lake and his line about how ‘being wronged can suffocate people’ equals him having lost someone (probably not by accident). I’m guessing his mother but maybe a sibling.

Theory:

Mr. Ma is in construction. He started taking short cuts (in building materials or labour) to make more money and that caused the buildings to be unsafe. In Woo and his family lived in one such building, something happens and someone in In Woo’s family dies. Now he wants revenge. Or... what if all of In Woo’s family was killed? The flashback was an orphaned In Woo going to the home of the man he blames for the deaths of his family but instead he meets Hye Ri. (I wonder if that was their only meeting?). He ends up getting adopted, perhaps by someone else involved in whatever happened. Mr. Ma was never charged or implicated in the safety violations and whatever accidents they cause so In Woo's plan is to finally get Mr. Ma charged and he wants his daughter to be the one to do it (to twist the knife just that little bit more).

Now logically there is no way that a prosecutor would be allowed to prosecute a family member but this is a kdrama, and we’ve already had prosecutors examining dead bodies (and finding obvious proof that detectives and coroners didn’t find) so logic is not the most important thing here.

Regardless of the specifics it is clear that the Mystery of In Woo is a revenge plot and I admit I’m a bit sad that my theory ended up not being true. I love the idea of him secretly being her fiance. I wonder if there is a drama with that type of plot?

It looks like there is going to be a lot more angst in the future which I’m actually fine with as long as a) it’s more everyone else angsting than Hye Ri because her being sad makes me sad (In Woo’s angsting on the other hand I eat up with a spoon) and, b) the series gets a happy ending (i.e. Hye Ri and In Woo end up happily together.) Seriously this series had better not be one of those 'and then one of the dies and the other mourns forever series. I just can't handle them.
