iaria: (Elena is boss (Vampire Diaries OT3))

• My biggest issue with the sacrifice storyline has been something I’ve been ignoring because I’ve been assuming/hoping that it would be addressed at a later point. But it hasn’t been. Elena’s strange lack of reaction and thought about the fact that the sacrifice involves the death of a werewolf and a vampire is a big problem for me.

Elena can be selfish and she does have a habit of putting the people she cares about above other people. However her main attribute is her empathy and the fact that she cares about people deeply (even her enemies, or people that have hurt her). So her completely ignoring that part of the ritual from the beginning to the end of this whole ordeal feels really off. In fact it really feels out of character to me. Her being caught up in her role is understandable, her spending a lot of time trying to protect Bonnie makes sense, her never apparently considering the vampire and werewolf needed, even if only to feel guilty or sad about it for a minute is not. I mean what the hell?

• I really wish that this show would slow down more sometimes because there are a lot of character moments that we miss that I really want to see and I think are important. Since Liz and Matt have discovered the truth we have barely seen them and the only person they’ve been interacting with when we do is Caroline. But what I really want to see is a Liz/Damon scene where she knows the truth and he doesn’t and is still being her friend and supportive and she doesn’t know how to react and is trying to see the monster she thinks he is but is having a hard time.

I want to see a Matt/Elena scene where he deals with the fact that Elena has known the truth all this time and kept it from him, especially about his sister. Because so much has been happening and so quickly both these relationships have been left by the wayside but they are important relationships and they deserve screen time. I really hope we don’t get cheated out of seeing Matt confronting Elena, or Liz confronting Damon.

• I was disappointed with what we got with Alaric. I mean I'm happy that he’s alive. I really liked his scene with Jenna. I liked him back as part of the team. But I didn't like that no one, other than Jenna, said that they were happy to have him back and were glad he was okay. It would have been nice if Elena had given him a hug or Stefan had said he was glad Alaric was alright.

And most of all it would have been nice for Damon, who is Alaric’s friend and cares for him, to have said something or shown in some way how pleased he was that Alaric was alright. This episode had Alaric shouldering their friendship with him supporting Damon and basically being a great friend while we got nothing from Damon, who was willing to sacrifice Alaric’s life, about being glad he wasn’t dead. Alaric kept making me go ‘aw’ with his support of Damon (the scene in the bar where Alaric followed him and agreed that Damon screwed up was great) but because there was no reciprocation from Damon it just felt really one-sided. It was disappointing.

• I was surprised at how little Katherine burned considering how long she was standing in the sunlight. Does age affect a vampire’s reaction to sunlight and thus the older you are the more you are able to handle sunlight?

• Katherine suddenly having a sunlight-protection bracelet instead of the necklace was bizarre. Since when has she had a bracelet? Did I miss something?

• I don’t see why Elena didn’t try and compromise with Damon during the first discussion and tell him ‘okay, I will wear Jeremy's ring as well as take the elixir’. I mean I don’t think it would have worked to placate him but regardless of whether the ring would work or not it wouldn’t have taken anything away or needed any effort to give in on that point to Damon.

• If Damon was so freaked out about the ritual and set on Bonnie attacking Klaus why didn’t he just go behind Elena and Stefan’s backs and tattle to Bonnie? From what we’ve seen Bonnie and Damon are actually in agreement on this subject. It would make perfect sense for Damon to go to Bonnie and say ‘hey, Elena is trusting Elijah, which is stupid because he is an Original, you should kill Klaus first, what do you need’. Bonnie is just as determined to protect Elena as he is and she’d probably agree with him. Even if she didn’t he wouldn’t lose anything. It just doesn’t make sense to me that he wouldn’t do that.

• When Damon attacked Maddox why did he strangle him instead of instantly breaking his neck? Damon moves fast, and clearly in that scene faster than Maddox could react, but instead of killing him instantly the way we know he can... he strangled him? What? That just made no sense. They should have just had Maddox brain hurt him as he was lunging or at least made it more obvious that Damon was trying to break his neck but Maddox was preventing him with magic.

Instead it just felt contrived so that Matt could save him. Speaking of contrived - how the hell did Matt follow Damon to the tomb? Now that really didn't make any sense.

• So Elijah believes that the inheritance ring won’t work on Elena because “the doppelganger is a supernatural occurrence”. Hmm. Does that mean that doppelgangers are caused by magic, perhaps from the original ritual to seal Klaus using the original Petrova? If the ring doesn’t work for her then what else could that mean about what she is?

• I was shocked when Matt killed Maddox. I really hope we get some fall out on this because he really had no reaction to the fact that he just killed a person and he really should have.

• So it appears that witches have their own version of compulsion - Maddox used magic to control Carol and force her to call Tyler. It appeared that he was actually controlling her voice/what she said which was so creepy.
